Apple Store Park City, Lancaster PA: Photos from opening day

It's a fine Saturday for a new Apple Store -- in fact, it's a fine day for five of them, ranging from the mighty Pacific to the towering Rockies, from the fruited hills of Pennsylvania to the verdant valleys of Northern Ireland. [Dial it back there, Woody Guthrie. – Ed.] Even as most economic indicators suggest a surging market in canned goods and clothing made from barrels, Apple is merrily investing in more retail outlets.

Fresh from the opening of the Park City Apple Store in Lancaster, PA, reader Jonathan Ober sent in his photos of the festivities; you can review all the fun in the gallery below. Did you visit one of the other store openings today? Shoot us a quick tip with a link to your photos or stories and we'll share them with the world.

Another note for anyone visiting the stores this weekend: I noticed at the 14th Street store in New York City yesterday that the new iPod nanos ($149/$199 US) were paired up in demo stations with the Bose QuietComfort 3 noise-cancelling headphones ($350 US).

While the sound quality was extraordinary, and the noise-suppression effect quite noticeable on the loud 2nd floor of the store, I have to think that using a pair of cans that costs 2x as much as the iPod isn't really fair to consumers, who are going to be a little disappointed with the bundled headphones after that experience. Are the Bose high-end 'phones ubiquitous in all stores with the nanos, or just in NYC? If you're shopping for a new iPod, do you bring your own headphones along to try it out? Just wondering... let us know below.

People were there from all across the country. The geniuses are behind the counter in the back, wearing the black shirts, and all hired there came back from training in California a couple of weeks before the store opened. The shirts are the same colors in all Apple Stores.

SteveMo...

You should edit together some video of the clips you took. If you wanna transfer 'em to me for iMovie wrangling, I'll have a play and pop them up on my YouTube account.

i went to the new park city store today around noon and let me just say, i love having such a nice, big store within 25 minutes of my home! i got a mac mini today and the guy who helped me was great. i like the new store more than the kop and towson stores... seems bigger. i was surprised to see how many of the demo imacs had spore creature creator up ;) that reminds me... let's see if spore will run on the new beastie...

I can't wait to see the store. I wanted to go today for the grand opening but ended up staying in bed a little too long. Hopefully I'll get out there tomorrow. It's closer than King of Prussia and Townson (I'm smack dab in the middle in Harrisburg).

To all who have enjoyed the Lancaster store opening thanks for taking time to check out my pics. I was so glad to share them with you. And to those who think there is a great number of employees no that some of them were hired on to help out today. Those KOP folks, for the most part moved up here or live closer to the Lancaster store...I know this to be true because I know three that moved from there. I know that some of the 'genius' also were knew to Apple or still in training therefore going to the back isn't all that bad. Besides Apple can't train everyone on every feature that is a part of the OS or products...it's sad, but we do live in the real world where most of those employees still make minimum wage or barely above. I love my Apple store, dont get me wrong...I will surly be broke before years end!

Colorado Springs also just got its first official retail store today! There's over half a million people in the metro area, so it's great to have an official store to go along with our resellers.

I was there for the Lancaster opening this morning also and I did get a t-shirt! I believe it is standard practice to bring in store employees from other stores for opening day to deal with the large crowds. You won't usually see that many at the store :-) I heard someone ask about the t-shirt colors. The Genius Bar people were in the charcoal shirts and I didn't see too many of them. Orange was for concierge people and blue were for the rest. Apparently colors vary from store to store.

I just sent off an email to TUAW with a link to the Colorado Store. Hopefully the post photos too. If not, here's my set on flickr of the Colorado Springs, The Promenade Shops at Briargate Opening!

I just moved here and have to say, having an Apple Store was in my head as we moved.

i went there today...didn't get the free t-shirt for the first 1,000 people but oh well...

the store is pretty big. lotta macs and ipods (obviously) there are TONS of apple geniuses there...just about 1:1 -1.5 ratio of genius to customer so the customer service there is great! though they are titled "geniuses" they still have to say "let me go back there and let me check it out for you" instead of knowing it right off the top of there heads. I even had to inform one of them that apple was releasing the new headphones with and integrated mic for the ipods...he kept thinking i was referring to the iphone but guess he didnt no.

all in all the store is great! its a lot closer to my house than king of prussia, the customer service is great and the staff is always willing to offer advice and help. you're never more than 5-7ft from an apple genius.

Unfortunately I don't think the amount of Geniuses/Specialists (light blue iPhone shirts) is going to stay as high as it was today.

Every employee of the new store was there today for the opening. Looking at the pics I took, and just looking in the store throughout the day, the majority of people in the store were employees. There is no way this will stay the same once the store goes to normal day to day operations.

yeah i agree...i dont think there will be as many employees once the hype of a new apple store being there goes down...and i no there were a lotta apple staff there. i kept bumping into them which wasnt a bad thing but it gives me a state of mind that if i have a question i just have to turn around and there will most likely be someone there.

I was at the opening this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was about 30th in line, maybe less. I thought it was fantastic to see all of the employees running around, especially the whole way down the line.

I did see some employees from the King of Prussia store, so either they're being moved to Lancaster or were just there for training the new people. I got my shirt and walked around for a bit to check out the new iPods, which are fantastic. Overall the experience was one I won't forget and I can't wait until I'm old enough to work at the store.
