Apple Store Colorado Springs: photos from opening day
Apple junkies who live in Colorado Springs, CO used to have to drive about 75 miles north to Denver to visit either the Park Meadows or Aspen Grove Apple Stores. Now they finally have an Apple Store of their own at the Promenade Shops at Briargate, which opened on Saturday, September 20th.Reader Denny noted "Firefighter Memorial Ride happened to be the same day and organized from the parking lot. At first, I thought Apple had a new market in Firefighters and Harley riders." Denny moved to Colorado Springs just three weeks ago from Orlando, FL, where he had his pick of three Apple Stores. Denny's Flickr slide show can be viewed here.
TUAW reader Marc mentioned that "Colorado Springs being a smaller market, the turnout wasn't as great as for some other openings -- there were about 40 people in line when I arrived about 8:30 am and another 40 or so filled out the line by the 9:00 am opening time." They may have T-shirts available for a while at that store... Marc's Flickr slide show is here.
Thanks to Denny, Marc, and Randy for their coverage of the event.

I think I saw James Dobson out front protesting ... something about apple, daemons, and darwin ?

Ouch. That's a bit harsh, don't you think?
However, your post is made amusing by the fact that the new apple store is within sight of Focus on the Family.
(It's really nice not to have to drive up to Denver to get my mac fix...)

Another Christian-basher who can't help but seize upon another opportunity to spew hatred, no matter how remote to correlation to the subject at hand...

I'm happy for the people in Colorado Springs, but I'm still wondering if there's EVER going to be an Apple Store in Philadelphia. :/

the opening was supposed to be at 10:00, not 9:00.
when i got there at about 9:45 there were about 80 people in front of me in line, and by the time i left at 10:30, there was another hundred people in line. I was around the shopping center until just after 11:00, and there was still a line of about 100 people.
40 my ass.

Jo jo is basically another person against the 1st amedment for people that he disagrees with.
That's fine with me and 10,000+ of my fellow Springsians... those of us with Concealed Weapon permits... see, we use the 2nd Amendment to ensure that they can complain, but can never take away anyone's 1st Amendment rights. Of course, Jo jo, i had my .45 with me when i went at 9:15 saturday morning...
there was far more than 40 people, as Jeff said. At 10:30, there were well over 200 outside, and Lord only knows how many inside the store.
There was an amount of bad planning on this - as they used the shopping center here to be the kickoff of the Firefighter's Memorial Ride. It appears as though the guys at the Apple store, in order to reduce the amount of impact that the store opening would make on such a far more important event - opened the doors before 9, as when i had gotten there, it was already stuffed with people.
Its really great to have an Apple store in our little po-dunk town... we love our little city because its not too hick, yet it hasn't gone insane like Denver (which is nothing more than Los Angeles at 5,280 feet altitude).
Its a great town because its our town - its quiet, there's little crime (thanks again to the previously mentioned hoards of gun owners), and you can be in the mountains in less than 10 minutes - out in some of the most beautiful parts of America and of the whole world.. and it feels like its all yours because there aren't millions of people clogging it all up.
And there's just enough snow to keep most of the Californians and Texans from moving here and screwing it all up.

Uh-huh yeah, enough snow to keep the Californians from moving in and screwing it all up .... like James Dobson and 400 of his employees did in 1991, right?
