Reports: Mac OS 10.5.7 release imminent

Update: EA has noted that The Sims 3, due in June, will require Mac OS 10.5.7. At least we know it will be by then.

Several outlets are reporting today that Mac OS 10.5.7 is due to drop any time now. Build 9J47 was released on Friday, less than a week after 9J44, and build 9J50 is said to have been distributed on Tuesday. Until now, these updates have been delivered weekly. This accelerated distribution, along with a shortening list of fixes (the latest build only addresses three) are clues that 10.5.7 is nearly ready.

Additionally, some customers have reported that the ATI Radeon HD 4850-equipped iMacs that they ordered have had their ship dates bumped up to this week (there's a rumor that the graphics card requires 10.5.7).

We'll let you know when this shows up, and report any changes (or problems) we experience after installation.

Joseph - You expected a Mac-hater to build a Hackintosh, or you're surprised he has the cajones to admit it in public?

Well it is going to drop before June 2 at latest. All of the specs I've seen for Sims 3 state that you need 10.5.7 Leopard or higher.

I am hoping that this release is to be "minimum specs" for a new version of Final Cut that will hopefully be announced at NAB next week.

(and yes, I am stiiiiil holding out hope for a new AppleTV too)

Could someone elaborate on what the hoopla is for calling 10.5.7 "imminent"?

Is it the ATI Radeon support?

I'm hoping a revised 17" MBP with Blu-ray is imminent as I'd like to be able to burn all my video content to something a bit more contemporary and feasible than CD or DVD.

To those that don't want Blu-ray, please note that the blank media is less than $5/25GB. Also the quality of Blu-ray feature films and the ilk is impeccable, far surpassing digitally distributed content both aurally and visually. Plus they contain a lot more content, obviously.

The MBP will not get a Blu-Ray drive before the Mac Pro does.

I really hope 10.5.7 fixes the DFU problems that 10.5.6 brought.

Ok, I'm going to have to follow in Engadget's footsteps although not as eliquently and ask what happened to TUAW 5th birthday? Afterall this site is older than Engadget although a sister site.

Come on Apple fans lets celebrate TUAW belated birthday. Happy 5.4th Birthday

According to http://news.worldofapple.com/archives/2009/04/15/latest-mac-os-x-1057-release-suggests-release-nearing-seed-notes/, Safari 4 Beta still only installs on Mac OS 10.5.6.

Can the 10.5.7 release really be "imminent" if that is the case, or is this also an indicator that S4 will be delivered from beta as well?
