Reminder: Apple 2nd quarter results due next week

Apple has released a media alert announcing its FY10 second quarter results conference call -- which we already knew was on 4/20, but it's nice that they've made it official, again. The conference call will take place on Tuesday at 2 pm PDT/5 pm EDT. Those interested can listen to the call starting at 2 pm by tuning into the webcast of the event. The quarterly results themselves will be announced shortly after the markets close in the US at 4 pm EDT.

Apple had issued guidance of $2.06-$2.18 profit per share on $11-$11.4 billion of revenue. As usual, this is well below the $2.43 per share most analysts expect Apple to report. For those hoping to hear iPad numbers, don't hold your breath. Though the iPad was announced in January, it did not ship until April 3rd, which means its sales numbers will not factor into Apple's Q2 earnings. TUAW will have analysis of the earnings during the call in our regular quarterly earnings liveblog.

From my understanding, the pre-orders for iPads were charged on the credit cards in March, so wouldn't that be Q1 revenue?

No, the pre-orders are only charges once the item is shipped - so generally sometime the week of launch.

Authorization holds for the amount of the device were placed at the time of order, but those cleared over time (my 3G hasn't shipped yet, no charge yet).

Why wouldn't we hear iPad sales numbers? Seeing as we already have (twice, in fact), I'm thinking Jobs or whomever does the talking will mention it (I'm guessing it's over 500k by now).

Hi MRCUR - we may hear anecdotal iPad numbers (ie: "We've sold over 600k now), but the exact numbers will not be made public nor will how the iPad's revenue and margins affect the company's Q2 financials (because they don't - at all). For that we'll have to wait for the Q3 call. Thanks for reading!
