TUAW Poll: What's the name of OS X 10.7?

Here at TUAW, we love possibilities. Yeah, we all know that Apple's new OS will be named something prosaic and big cat like OS X 10.7 Lion but until Apple actually makes its announcement, the waveform doesn't collapse. Possibilities still abound.

TUAW spent this morning brainstorming alternatives to OS X Lion and puts them forth for your general consensus. Here's your opportunity to sound out with regard to OS naming. Whether there's anyone out there listening is another question; one that we will studiously avoid answering.[1]

Vote for your favorite OS X name in our handy TUAW poll -- or add your own suggestions in the comments that follow. Sound out! It's your last chance before quantum happens.

Well, we do know it'll be Lion, because of the image Apple released to the press, but they did miss:

* Cougar;
* Ocelot;
* Lynx.

Apart from that, I do love OS X 10.6, but I was looking forward to some huge, major eye-candy changes for 10.7. Let's cross our fingers.

Morris. He's a pretty good pitchcat.

Better yet, since the Droid has dibs on all things Star Wars, maybe Apple should take on another cultural icon like The Golden Girls. Call it Rose, put Betty White on the box, you've got a winner.

You know I'm kidding, right?

When I saw the invite, I immediately thought, Apple is proud.

Mac OS X Pride

Lion sounds too much like lying for comfort. And pride is lion-related after all.

Its funny how Panther, Leopard, and Jaguar are all the subfamily Pantherinae. Lion is the only one not encountered in the Apple info names - unless they use it in house as the prototype name. Other than Lion, Apple has pretty much exhausted that subfamily (except Clouded Leopard and Borneo Clouded leopard. Those just don't have that "ring" you would expect in an OS nickname.
