Second Utah Apple Store seen in job listings

Utah is home to many stunning natural wonders, and soon it will be home to not one, but two Apple stores. Job listings spotted by ifoAppleStore reveals the Cupertino company may open a second retail store in the Fashion Place Mall located in Murray, Utah by the end of the year. This second store will be a mere eight miles away from Utah's flagship Gateway store, which is located in downtown Salt Lake City.

Though eight miles is a relatively small distance for a state as big as Utah, the choice of Murray as a home for a second store is driven by demographics. Though Murray itself is relatively small with 34,000 residents, the Fashion Place Mall is located in a prime retail district that boasts of over 875,000 area residents whose average salary is $76,098. It is also physically situated on an intersection with vehicle traffic of over 174,000 cars per day. Sounds like a good place to sell a lot of MacBook Airs and iPad 2s, no?

ifoAppleStore had details about this some months ago, but it's nice to see articles that it's confirmed.

I work across the street (just north) of the Fashion Place Mall and this is great news. Trips downtown to the Gateway Apple store can be time consuming, especially during working hours. Now it's a quick 5 minute walk across the street when I need something Apple related.

Great news indeed.

Great news, BUT- why cant anyone see the benifits of Provo Utah???? Seriously- I don't love Provo, but with BYU and UVU, it should be a no brainer. There are so many college students that use Apple products that they are kidding themselves if they think that it wouldn't be benificial to add a store down there. Wake up Apple, your making so much money now that you are not even seeing where your target markets should be. Quit being picky about where you put your stores and open one up in Utah County. The Provo-Orem area is busting with people jonesing for an Apple Store. Thanks for the news for the new one. Now give us one down here.

Personally, I'd rather see local Apple authorized retailer Simply Mac open up a store there in the Provo/Orem area. They already have a policy about closing on Sunday and that would match the demographics of the area more than an official Apple Store.

you need to realize that there is a simply mac in utah county. having worked for the terrible terrible simply mac company (which is owned by spring mobile), apple and their authorized resellers such as simply mac sign a treaty of sorts saying apple wont open an Apple store within certain vicinity of an authorized reseller.

This means apple wont open a store there because of that. This applies to other authorized resellers like the authorized service center in ogden at the WSU campus. most people they dont know that wsu is authorized and drive all the way to slc.

Fashion Place is one of the top grossing malls in the entire West, so I'm not surprised they would locate there over Utah valley or South Towne.

This is awesome news for anyone that has tried to do anything at the SLC store. You can almost never find an open employee. It's great news, because it'll take the load off. Now, they need one in Ogden, and one in Provo. Then we'll have enough Apple Stores!

Eight miles! Sacrilege!

If they're going to put a second Apple store in Utah, move it south into Utah county. There's a ton of Mac users here, not to mention two Universities. I shudder to think how much retail cash Apple is losing because guys like me won't drive to SLC & fight the traffic nightmare just to visit an Apple Store.

I don't know who is advising Apple on their stores, but they've got an extra hole in their head.

An Apple store employee shocked me when he told me that the SLC store was regularly ranked around 3rd place for total WORLDWIDE revenue at all Apple retail stores.

Considering the apple store at the gateway is so packed everyday regardless of product releases. He'll the 6 person workshops are usually so packed that they have 10-12 person workshops regularly instead of the 6 person maximum.

Also, the genius bar is almost always behind at least 30 minutes or more. Maybe this is more about alliviating traffic and sales between two stores and since it seems they are selling anything at the gateway by the truck load.

Southtowne is not going through a major renovation or construction at the moment either. Fashion Place, when finished, will have the only Crate and Barrel, Sephora, Cheesecake Factory, a new Redrock and CPK and has very nice Nordstroms. Looking at Apple's target audience, this is prime location and will be fresh and new by the end of the year.

Wow this news along with SLC being the first market to accept NFC payments? That's a lot of news for our little tiny town of Salt Lake. Happy to be a Utard today.
