New Southgate, Florida Apple Store confirmed

The Herald-Tribune is reporting that Apple is planning to bring a retail store to Southgate Mall in Sarasota, Florida, which could open by December. Currently Southgate Mall is going through major renovations, the end of which will bring 30 new stores to the mall.

Westfield, who owns the mall, is moving two of its current tenants, LensCrafter and GNC, from the number 14 and 15 spaces in the mall in order to accommodate the new Apple store. When completed the new Southgate Apple Store will be 42-feet wide, with a total square footage of 4,100 feet. As noted by ifoAppleStore, the Southgate Mall store will fill an Apple store in the area of Florida's west coast south of Tampa that has no stores.

Tom, you cant expect the writers here to get the facts right every time. Or even most of the time... Hmmm.

Looking forward to the Sarasota location! Too bad I'm nearly the same distance from the Brandon Mall, the International Mall, and the Southgate Mall.

Well, ain't this place a geographical oddity. Two weeks from everywhere!

Will be great news. We do have a fantastic Apple Service and reseller in Computer Advantage here. But it will save us from the Tampa International Mall or Brandon Mall. The Sarasota store will be packed for sure!

Michael - I'm from that area. The city is called Sarasota, not Southgate. Southgate is the name of the mall. You probably should update the title of the article.

But, on that note. I am STOKED for this. Now there's an Apple store 5 minutes from home...now I don't have to drive an hour to the Tampa International Mall!
