Apple is known as having created a walled-garden with its products – for some right reasons and some not. It is beneficial to its customers in certain ways, such as tighter control on the app store resulting in lower percentage of malware. However, the lack of compatibility with Android is annoying between friends and family who use different phones. For example, sharing original quality photos between Android and iOS has been a difficult task, at least until now.

The search mammoth Google has revealed that it is bringing AirDrop support to the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro series. While Apple has not officially endorsed the feature, users have reported that it works flawlessly – to be seen how long it will be the case though. Ideally, Apple shuts down “hacks” or workarounds which enable Apple-proprietary technology to work unofficially on hardware other than its own.

In the blogpost, Google has revealed that QuickShare on Android now works seamlessly with the iPhone’s AirDrop. Workarounds usually compromise on quality or security; however Google states that the feature has been developed keeping in mind “strong safeguards” which have been tested by independent security experts.

The blogspot goes on to add that this new AirDrop compatibility feature is another feather in its hat on bringing Android and iOS. Google already put up a huge battle with Apple (in the legal courts and seeking support from regulatory bodies) to bring RCS messaging to iOS, resulting in a seamless experience between Android and iOS using the proprietary messaging app on both OS-phones.

While Google has removed one major hurdle for buyers looking at the Pixel 10 as a potential purchase. Many folks, especially in the US, face the internal battle when considering an Android phone, as it would mean leaving the iMessage group and lack of AirDrop.
