The sound team behind Apple TV’s hit film “F1: The Movie” enjoyed a standout weekend in the UK, securing two major awards. First, on February 21, 2026, the Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) honored the team at Warner Bros. offices in London. The group received the AMPS Excellence in Sound for a Feature Film award.
Team members Al Nelson, Gwendolyn Yates Whittle, Gary A. Rizzo, Juan Peralta, Gareth John, and Dash Mason-Malik accepted the recognition. Their work brought the roar of Formula 1 engines and the tension of the track vividly to life.

BAFTA Recognition at Royal Festival Hall
Just one day later, the team gathered again—this time at the Royal Festival Hall—for the BAFTA Film Awards. BAFTA, often seen as the UK’s equivalent to the Oscars and Emmys, celebrates excellence across film, television, and craft categories.
Although “F1: The Movie” did not win in editing or visual effects, it claimed victory in the Best Sound category. The film triumphed over strong competitors, including “One Battle After Another,” “Frankenstein,” “Sinners,” and “Warfare”.
Sound designer Gareth John emphasized the collaborative nature of the project. He thanked director Joe Kosinski, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and Apple for their support.
Momentum Builds Toward the Oscars
The film’s recognition does not stop in the UK. “F1: The Movie” has earned four Academy Award nominations, including Best Sound and Best Picture. It also competes in Visual Effects and Film Editing.
The Oscars ceremony will take place on March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. As anticipation grows, the film’s recent UK wins strengthen its standing in the awards race.
With powerful engine sounds and immersive audio design, “F1: The Movie” has proven that sound can drive storytelling. Now, all eyes turn to Hollywood to see if the film can extend its winning streak.
