Apple plans to manufacture the Mac mini in the United States at a new facility in Houston, Texas. The company revealed the update just ahead of the State of the Union address, a timing that highlights growing political focus on domestic production.
The Houston site already assembles AI servers for Apple’s data centers. However, Apple is now expanding the campus and building a new factory line dedicated to the Mac mini. The expansion will double the site’s footprint, and production is expected to begin later in 2026.

CEO Tim Cook emphasized the company’s commitment to American manufacturing. He stated that Apple began shipping advanced AI servers from Houston ahead of schedule and plans to accelerate that effort
Advanced Manufacturing Training
In addition to the factory expansion, Apple will open a 20,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston. The center will provide hands-on training for students, suppliers, and other businesses. Participants will learn the same production processes Apple uses to build its products.
Apple’s existing Manufacturing Academy in Detroit has already supported more than 130 American manufacturers through AI and automation training. The Houston facility aims to extend that impact.
A Small but Symbolic Step
While the move marks progress, the Mac mini represents a small portion of Apple’s overall sales. The company sells about one million Mac minis globally each year, far fewer than iPhones.
Lawmakers who advocate for “Made in America” policies will likely view the expansion as a win. However, Apple has not announced plans to shift iPhone production to U.S. soil. Experts note that workforce training and automation challenges remain major hurdles.
For now, the Houston factory signals steady movement rather than sweeping change. Apple strengthens its domestic presence, yet its largest product line remains overseas.
