Governor Steve?
Peter over at Engadget has the scoop on some possible political plans (don't ya love alliteration) of Steve Jobs. Actually, it's all largely conjecture based on an article about the current Governator of California. However, we know that Steve reads Engadget, so if he wasn't really thinking about it, now maybe he is. There's evidence for this being a logical move for Steve. He's recently made the tough type of phone calls that politicians must sometimes make. He's given commencement speeches, and he's as American as Apple pie. He even has his own plane should he have to fly to the other end of the state for a political emergency and he already receives odd courtesies from public enforcement officers.Would he have a chance of winning against the Governator? As long as Al Gore's bad political luck hasn't rubbed off on him from their years of working together, sure. Why not?

"Al Gore's bad luck"?
I'll resist the almost overwhelming urge to supply additional examples of "bad luck," based on your implied definition. (Howard Dean's "bad luck"?) (Ooops.)
I'm a card-carrying SJ Kool-Aid drinker, but I wouldn't support his entry into politics any more than I would the typical Hollyweird airhead celebrity, on either side of the aisle. Analagous to Michael Jordan getting into baseball, people should know their limits, and stick to what they're good at. Good folks can get into trouble when they start believing their own press releases.

Apple enthusiasts should NOT be happy or support this idea. Running Apple and Pixar is enough. The Governor's job requires a tremendous amount of time - time that would be taken away from Apple, which is NOT what we need just as things are starting to look so positive.

The top ten things we'd see if Steve Jobs ran for Governor:
10. The capitol would move to 1 Infinite Loop.
9. Newspapers that wrote about Jobs' platform before he presented it would be sued.
8. Errol Morris would direct his campaign commercials, urging voters to "switch" from Arnold. (He'd later be fired and the spots shelved).
7. State taxes would cost 20% more, but would be said to be worth it due to the superior product. Diehard fans would even show how paying more taxes would actually be cheaper in the long run.
6. National programs wouldn't run on the California platform.
5. The state government would be more "open," but not really that "open."
4. Motorists would be offered "U2 Special Edition" license plates.
3. State of the State addresses would appear to be over, and Steve would say, "We have just one more thing..."
2. California would shrink to under 5% of the country's market share.
1. Goodbye "Governor," hello "iGov"!
