I'll be getting a 1gb nano for my girlfriend. 14th Feb is her birthday as well so it's a gift for both occasions :-)

@mike: my 1st gen iPod still works flawlessly after 4.5 years, although the battery is kind of shot. But anyway, hopefully flash iPods should last longer in general than their hard drive counterparts.

Does anyone else find it funny that Apple claims the iPod is a gift that "lasts?" To date I have been through 3 iPods (all replaced with the extended Apple care warranty) due to faulty hard drives in 13 months. My girlfriend is on her second. I have been a Mac faithful since the 80's and love their computers, but I will be very reluctant to fork over $300 for another hard drive based music player.
