Apple spending like drunken sailor
Apple plans to increase capital spending this year by $280 million dollars. The new campus that they are building certainly is a large factor in the increase, but they are also going to be spending a chunk of change on retail (hey, when are you opening a Philadelphia store, Apple?) as well as replacing equipment and what have you.Apple previously estimated that it would spend $420 million on capital this year, but now thinks $700 million should fit the bill.

They already have a West Chester store (King of Prussia Mall)...it's really not that far.

Hey I've heard from Apple store employees in the Christiana, DE store that a Center City Philadelphia store is in the works.

Proof read?! Never! ;) Thanks for point that out, I fixed the duplicate 'this year.' Perhaps Apple isn't the only drunken sailor around these parts.
Eric, that's what I'm talking about! Since I live in Center City that would be much better for me, and really isn't that what life is all about?

Shows like Duck Tales really needs to be placed on a vintage Disney part of the iTMS. They could also get Chip n' Dale's Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck! Excellent picture choice.

It would be nice for the city of brotherly love to have the buzz that surrounds the store front of any of these Apple stores. I am curious if there is resistance due to the fact that Philadelphia has one of the best Apple Retailers (Springboard Media) that I know of located downtown. Oh, and we also have a shwag Apple Retailer (I forget the name of the store on the 1800 block of Chestnut) right in center city as well. That seems like a lot more places to pick up Apple gear than most cities have, but maybe I'm wrong (I've been an Apple fan for a while, but am a relatively new owner, 2+ years). And the Computer Store at Penn is always a good place to shop.

Blake, the place on Chestnut is Bundy. And Springboard is a decent place, but you'd think if Apple cared about them, they'd send them a newer iMac banner. They've still got one in the window advertising the G5 model.
The nice thing about the Delaware store, if you've got a couple of hours to kill driving, is that the no-sales-tax/student-discount combination, even if you're a student at, say, Penn. I think even with gas prices as high as they are, the sales tax thing still saves you money on anything but a mini.

Puh-leeeeeese, Scott. At least you guys have the King of Prussia store.
I can't believe there isn't one planned somewhere within the Harrisburg/York/Lancaster/Hershey quadrangle. Considering the college campuses, print shops, and ad agencies concentrated in the region, plus considering the fact that the area definitely isn't economically depressed, I think it'd be a good fit.

I'll second what everyone else said about Springboard Media. Sure, their store isn't as snazzy as one of them high falutin' Apple Stores, but it gets the job done.
But if King of Prussia (or Marlton in Jersey, or Wilmington in Delaware) is too far away, word is there's going to be one in Suburban Square in Ardmore.

They should put one down town, and they should put one in Bucks County somewhere like New Hope, or Doylestown.

The KOP store counts as a "philly store," I guess. And don't be surprised if Apple opens one up in the new huge-ass Center Valley mall coming to the Lehigh Valley. So all us PA-ers will have somewhere to shop.
...except for all those weird people who live west of Harrisburg.

Harrisburg does need an Apple Store! There is a serious lack of Apple stuff out here. (I live in Etters near harrisburg and York). Does anybody know if it is a franchised thing?
There is a place in lancaster called Macheads.. www.macheads.com.

I live 5 minutes from MacHeads.
Too bad they suck so bad. It used to be an OK store, but their shelves always seem pretty bare. I could tell more storeies, but just take this advice.
If you want Mac stuff around this area of PA, just make a day of it and keep on driving down to King of Prussia or Wilmington.
Or Brian, you could just ramble on over to KClinger's have some good brews and have your gear overnighted!
:o)

Actually i am an avid KClinger's fan. I actually used to commute to King of Prussia and frequented the Apple Store there. It is what pushed me to be a "switcher". maybe a Mac meetup group at KClingers?...
