Apple Stores set to open in PA, CA
Apple has announced the grand opening of two new retail stores for this weekend. The first is Apple Store Simi Valley, which is located at 1555 Simi Town Center Way Space #535, near the Center Court next to Eddie Bauer. You can find complete travel directions here. The second is Apple Store Suburban Square in Ardmore, Pa which Scott posted about earlier. This store can be found at 61 St. James Place in Ardmore, next to Wachovia Bank, just off Montgomery Avenue. Both stores will open this Saturday, May 13th at 9:00 AM.
As usual, the first 1000 visitors to each location will be rewarded with commemorative t-shirts. Visitors can also enter to win the "Grand Opening Sweepstakes," which will award one winner with an iMac, an iPod nano, a Canon digital camera, a Sony Handycam CCD-TRV138, and an HP inkjet printer.
If you're going to attend either of these openings, please send us links to your photos and reports! Good luck and have fun.

I find it incredibly irritating that they'd open another store so close to the King of Prussia Mall before opening one in Harrisburg or Lancaster.
Harrisburg has one of the high-end "lifestyle centers" that Apple seems to like when there's not a good mall around, and Lancaster's mall would probably be a good fit.
Right now, the closest stores to Harrisburg and Lancaster are King of Prussia and Towson, Maryland, each one is about a solid hour and a half drive.

Went to Suburban Square, scored a shirt. Someone's already selling one on eBay (see my blog for links).
At 10:00 a.m., the doors hadn't opened yet, the line was thick and wrapped around 2.5 sides of the building, and growing. All ages in line, mostly males aging from 18-40. Lots of people snapping pics. Could've kicked myself for forgetting my camera. I waited about 45 minutes to get in the door.
Titanium and glass with our beloved Apple dress the front and side of the store. Looks a lot like my G5, actually!
Listening docks with iPods are set up inside near the door. The store goes on for miles! I filled out a sweepstakes entry that one of the managers had to take to the back of the store for me (where the entry box was located) because the stroller wouldn't make it through the throngs of people. Hopefully he didn't lose my entry.
This store wails on King of Prussia. I wish I could go to the NYC opening, but I'm thinking my baby won't be so patient next time!
Looked like corporate people were handing out the shirts. You could only score one on your way out of the store, not going in. Since I couldn't really walk around, I came in, filled out my entry, and left. I'll return another day to drool and breathe in the fresh Apple air.

I've live blogged the event at the Simi Valley Town Center at my site, and you can read it all at http://www.ambit-online.net/2006/05/13/simi-valley-apple-store-live-blogging/

Woohoo! First in line at Simi Valley. We arrived at around 6:20, and waited for about half an hour before anyone else showed up. The guy that showed up behind us wasn't even really there for the opening, he was trying to hunt down two 17" MacBooks- which they didn't have! I thought it was kind of quiet and mellow, as far as openings go- but the staff, including Apple Security (who knew such a thing existed?) and builder/project manager, were in high spirits. At opening, the security guard only counted about 100-110 people in line, but more people showed as we entered.

Chris, I hate to make you feel bad, but I live east of you in West Chester and with the new Suburban Square location, I am living within a confluence of three Apple stores.
Ardmore (about 45 minutes because of Route 30), King of Prussia (20 minutes non rush hour traffic) and Christiana, DE (40 minutes on backroads).

Arrived at 10:05, line was about 150 people long, and the store was full. Had to wait until 10:30 before I got in and got a T-Shirt! Apple staff were very friendly and keen to help. Wish I could have had the guts to max out my credit card for the MacBook Pro, but it will have to wait! Photos on Flickr ...

They REALLY need a Southwest Riverside County one... say, Temecula/Murrieta... heck even that new outdoor mall opening in Corona in October or so. It's just like the one up in Rancho Cucamunga.
Meh.

Choosing Ardmore was a pretty stupid move by Apple, because the King of Prussia store is definitely not very far away. I say put one in Philly, or Bucks County. Although, I do feel bad for the people from Harrisburg, but after all they do live in the middle of no where.

I have visited three Apple Retail Stores in the North NJ area. The stores provide
nothing to the older computer software users. The personnel working in the
retail stores are pompous egocentric interns who have no idea what they are
talking about and how the latest software package wil help the customer at
home or at his business. I have seen and been to plenty of computer shows
and conventions. If you intend to purchase a computer at a Apple Retail Store
bring a person who has experience with the operations of these computers.
