Flickr Find: Steve Jobs for Jesus

Our good friend Narco posted this image to the TUAW Flickr pool. It is a religious pamphlet that uses Steve's career as a way of promoting Jews for Jesus. Check out the full size version for all the details.

Um, wow. This is almost as ridiculous as those Chick pamphlets. I mean, does anyone read this stuff and immediately decide to change their life? And if they do, would you really want to recruit them in your church?
Whatever your religious beliefs, there's little doubt Stevie J. will have left the world better than he found it, and that's gotta count for something.
That post tickled both my funny bone and gag reflex.

I clicked it with no small amount of trepidation, but in the end it was pretty funny.
For some reason I thought the "*This offer not restricted to Steve Jobs" was hilarious.

"Some mac fans need a reality smack"
What makes you think this was done by a Mac fan?

Are there any Jews who aren't for Jesus?

Clicky...
Many (most?) Jews do not believe Jesus was the messiah sent by God. Nor do they believe Jesus was, as he claimed, the Son of God.
So in these terms, the answer to your question would be yes.

Very humorous. But I think Steve is a Buddhist.

Note: Jews for Jesus was one of a select few religious groups that was completely banned from Boston University's campus. (For being a scary cult.) They are one of only two groups that all BU students are specificly told to report to the university police if they are seen in any official capacity.
As near as we could tell, they try to sell Jews on the idea that you can be Jewish and follow Jesus' teachings (i.e. become a christian) Once the unlucky soul realizes that this was nothing but an uderhanded ploy, s/he may try to leave the group, at which point they are harrassed constantly until they rejoin the "flock."

#11 Not sure what's up in Boston but I do know some Jews who are Christians who don't use those tactics you describe above. BTW quite a alot of the Christians back in New Testament times were actually Jews so its not mutually exclusive and there are a number of Jews who believe in Jesus as Messiah today. I guess like all groups you have some rotten apples and some good ones.
As for the poster I thought it was funny but kinda funny but one person's funny is another person's not so funny...

Most Jews don't believe in Jesus as the Messiah, we believe that there was a person named Jesus, but that he wasn't the Messiah. Jews believe that the Messiah has yet to come, and we don't scorn those who believe in him.
Also, Jews for Jesus is an organization with the sole purpose of converting Jews to Christianity, they don't believe that the Jews should be able to be Jewish, at all.
Just my thoughts.....

dag618, your mostly correct.
Jews for Jesus believe that Jesus is the Messiah, therefore they feel that a Jew who doesn't believe that Jesus is the Messiah is "missing the boat."
Imagine meeting an Apple employee who didn't believe that Steve Jobs was CEO of the company he worked for. You would want to correct him or help him see the truth.
Jews for Jesus have nothing against "being Jewish" but part of Jesus message was the following hundreds of laws doesn't put you in good standing with God.
Jews for Jesus reject the legalistic aspects of Judaism.

Actually, Steve is responsible for promoting one of the three commandments, Think Different. The other two are Let There Be Light and the Golden Rule. What else does anyone need?

Disclaimer in the interest of fairness: I wrote the pamphlet. Jews for Jesus believes one, that Jesus is the Messiah and two, (vs. what dag618 said) that you can definitely be Jewish and believe in Jesus. That's why the name says *Jews* for Jesus. The bottom line is, is Jesus the Messiah or not? About the pamphlet, sure the message about Jesus is meant to be serious, but the Steve Jobs thing is really so tongue in cheek I'm amazed how many people blogged that it's "targeting Steve for conversion" or something like that. I'm glad some people saw the (intended) humor in it.
