Sept. 12th Event 'Showtime'
Our good friends at iLounge have confirmed that Apple will be holding a special event on September 12th. The invitation, which TUAW didn't get (clearly an oversight), says, 'It's Showtime.' The event is scheduled for 10a.m. Pacific at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.Given the title of the event, and the number of rumors, it seems a shoe in that Apple will be announcing movie downloads from iTunes, but you never know.

Or maybe the spotlights highlighted in the invitation display a Batman logo in the sky, and Apple has teamed up with him to bring.. iBats?

It'd be nice to see newer iPods out. I'm anxious to replace my 4G 60gb iPod with something newer. But I think this will be completely underwhelming and a letdown. Apple is kinda mean like that.

Yep, I think it's obvious that movie downloads are coming. Even though I don't really care about portable movies, this will at least guarantee that higher capacity iPods will be announced (if not now, then soon). Even though I am supposedly in the minority because I want a 100GB iPod, I hope one is released. PLEASE.
Fishes,
narco.

Nick says... "But I think this will be completely underwhelming and a letdown. Apple is kinda mean like that."
We bring it on ourselves, you know. Remember the last time Apple held one of these non-keynote events? All they said was "fun new products", and every flight of fancy that entered a Mac blogger's head became an unconfirmed rumour to get hearts a-fluttering. When reality turned out to be the iPod Hi-Fi and the inevitable Intel Core Mac mini, Apple got raked over the coals for not living up to everyone's overinflated expectations. All that from the phrase "fun new products".
In other words, everybody be cool.

I'm really hoping apple doesn't disappoint, and this time, i really don't think they will. Even if everything that has been expected doesn't turn up, i think this event will give us big hints as to what to expect, in realese MacBook Pro, we all expect macbook kinda way. I do think we will get movies, i do think we will get nano, and i do think a one/two more thing(s)... (we haven't been treated with one in a while!)

Is the picture that accompanies post the ACTUAL invitation?
Since I will never be invited to an Apple event, I would like to see what one of these invitations look like.
Or, is there some Apple rule that you can't show an invitation to the public?

The brother of a friend of mine works at AMD. He doesn't want his identity revealed, but he has good reason to suspect a shift by Apple away from Intel processors. This is further evidenced by some behind-the-scenes footage shot for the upcoming Apple AMD commercial that was on YouTube this morning briefly.
Hang on, scratch that... none of that actually happened.

I think this hints to an new addition to iLife called Showtime for sorting and presention of the movies you buy from the iTunes store. Also they'll probably announce the availability of (some) video material in the international iTunes stores.

Keith is right. We bring it upon ourselves. It's like when that cheerleader from high school smiles at you and you think "wow! she likes me for who I am on the inside!" and it turns out she just wants to borrow your notes for her boyfriend.

Allright, this presentation is all about iTunes and movie downloads, clearly. So, no new Nano, no new MacBook Pros (Merom), no iPhone. We'll hear all about how great iTunes is and the movies are, and then we'll see the new 23" iMac and larger capacity iPods (apparently NOT the true video iPod yet?) on which to view these new downloads.
Nanos will be introduced on the 19th or later, after the free Nanos for students deal is over.
And, please, bring the iPhone in the next month or so...

Funny thing, but TIVO is releasing their Series 3 model on the same day or the next. Wonder if this is a coincidence...

Well it is blantantly obvious that this is going to be the announcement of full-length movie downloads. However, Apple in the past has managed to throw curve balls with what they're doing.
So my predictions along side with the announcement of movie downloads in the iTMS is either: updated iPod lineup; with full length movies you're going to need more storage space. I sincerely doubt this will be the touch screen iPod we've all been waiting for.
Or perhaps an update to the Mac Mini lineup. The Mini is not a highend machine and has kind of made a name for itself as the Mac lovers HTPC. So I'd be willing to bet that if this were to happen hard drive sizes would increase in both models.
Or Apple could prove me wrong and just announce movie downloads call it a day and say "see you on the 25th."

I think it would be quite disappointing if Apple just revealed iTunes movies. I mean, everyone's been talking about it for ages and so the novelty's worn off a little. I really hope that Apple delivers something that NO-ONE expected. That would be really exciting.

Anyone else noticed that "It's Showtime" is the phrase apple use to describe front row on the MacBook Pro page probably a coninsidence, but hey, worth a shout!!!

Seeing as it has showtime and spotlights and th elike, it is obviously an Apple movie starring whats his face from Jeepers Creepers, Accepted, and mostimportantly, the mac ads where for the whole 90 minutes, it is a conversation between mac and pc.
Either that or iTMS movies (and if we're lucky, they'll give in and make it iTunes MEDIA store). Probably higher capacity iPods that MIGHT have bigger screens.
