British readers listen up! If you're a resident west of London, your choices for UK Apple Stores are -- shall we say -- somewhat limited. With just one store in the southwestern part of the UK (
Exeter), and one on the south coast in
Southampton, Apple's retail clout has yet to extend to the area in between (such as to other larger cities like Bristol). Fear not though, as Apple is indeed planning to open an
Apple Store in Bristol later in the year.
Apple has posted job vacancies for the (to be determined) location
just today - meaning that the store will likely open in advance of Christmas. If you hear anything about the location, be sure to
let us know.
Thanks to all those who sent this in!Update: Multiple tipsters say the Cabot Circus development (scheduled to open in September) is home to the new store. Thanks folks!

There is already a very good Apple dealer in the centre of Bristol. They aren't going to like this. It would have been better to have worked with them.

I agree. Western are always friendly and have never let me down yet. Also only 10 minutes walk from the centre. It's a shame they are going to be eclipsed after spending so much on their new store.

Russ,
There's a couple more that Apple are already hiring for (Liverpool, for example) that add to the 'already open' list.

Also, the two Manchester stores are so close together that they form a single dot on the map!

And if you leave in the north east, you have got no chance as far as apple service goes, its a two hour journey north or south by train, which costs about 30 quid! - We need Apple to hit Newcastle with a store!

One on Hull would be nice, the nearest one to me takes an hour train trip to Sheffield.

The new store is in the Cabbots circus development of bristol which they have been building for the past few years. They are aiming to open it around late september but are expected to make an official annoucement regarding the development in the next few weeks.

Actually there's already an apple dealer in bristol in a completely, uselessly inaccessible un-parkable-at location that hardly ever has anything in stock. I've wondered for a while if their presence was why Bristol wasn't getting an Apple store.

great news having a proper apple store in bristol. As marky said there is already an apple reseller in bristol down near temple meads but noone is going to shed a tear for them having a bit of competition. hopefully it will make them buck up their ideas and be a bit more customer friendly.

Couldn't agree more. I have had a few occasions in there where I've just wanted to walk out. One occasion would be when they decided to throw my recently repaired iPod Touch across the desk - by accident of course. They just strike me as sloppy. There is also a member of staff there, of whom I will not name that almost belittles you when you are asking for something.

Excellent news! I have been saying for a while now that a 'proper' Apple Store has been needed in Bristol. Western Apple just don't cut it. That and parking for that store is a joke.
Great news!!

That would be the same apple store that kept the flag flying for Apple in the West, before the ipod and the iphone had everyone talking apple. I've used Western for almost 20 since I discovered them in Cardiff. Perhaps you don't remember a time about 10 years ago when apple almost went out of business... before the case was won against microsoft, and a few less than perfect products. Western stuck with Apple instead of jumping ship. I tend to respect that in a business rather than envy them now that the brand is successful. People like Western served my business well and I still use them even though there is now an apple dealer in my own city. Think it all through Sam et al before you have a go. Apple should recognise it's friends and work with the likes of Western rather than try and take the market that was won for them through the bad times by others. As for the lack of product in store... never really a problem for me, that I can remember but if you are talking about the newer products... Apples strategy was for a slow release of ipod and iphone after months of advertising hype...Not in the control of Apple dealers.

What about Edinburgh? I want an Apple store in Edinburgh! It pains me having to make the (albeit worthwhile) pilgrimage to the Glasgow store...

I wish whoever in California plans these things understood more about both cultural and commuting distances between cities in the UK - it is true that people in Edinburgh can travel to the Applestore in Glasgow but those of us living in Scotland know the difference that actually having one in the capital city would make, especially in terms of influencing government and educational organizations.

Yes an Apple store in Newcastle would be nice. I know MacWorld reported that they were, apparently, looking for a site in Newcastle. But that was aaaages ago.
Maybe once the Metro Centre gets it's renovation it could be there (they're already closing the indoor amusement park to relocate the Mulitscreen Cinema there, and turn the old cinema site into an extension of the mall).
Although the MetroCentre is a bit down-market, I think an Apple store in Grainger Town in the centre of Newcastle would look great. Could even be a flagship store, like the one in Glasgow or Regent's Street. The architecture of the street is one of the best in the UK.
Also Eldon Square shopping mall is building an extension, too.
Many possibilities - but still no Apple store yet.

Al - very much agreed. I thought when the new Red Quadrant of the Metro Centre opened there would be one there. I can see an Apple Store on Grey Street too - in one of those fabulous old buildings.
The nearest to us is Sheffield or Manchester. I honestly don't see why Sheffield gets one but not the North East area. It would provide a lovely source of employment for me too :-D
