Numbers game: 75M Mac OS X users, 1M SDK downloads, 50,000 apps
As with most keynote presentations, Apple released a lot of numbers about just how many people are adopting the Mac and iPhone platforms.
First, over the last three years, the active Mac OS X installed base has grown from 25 million users to 75 million users. This is great news for the platform and for the entire Mac ecosystem.
Also, over 5,200 developers from 54 countries around the world are attending WWDC. Over a million people have downloaded the free iPhone SDK, and created 50,000 applications for Apple iPhones and iPod touch devices.
Speaking of which, over 40 million iPhones and iPod touches have been sold to date. In April, Apple announced that those users had downloaded a cumulative total of one billion applications.

is it just me, or was WWDC kind of lame?

I was hoping for a fresh look for the iPhone hardware - black or white; yeah. Mmm. Great. At least something to distinguish from the 3G! That sounds vain, I know. The new Mac Book Pro 13" looks kinda cool though - I might just be able to afford that! All of the 3.0 stuff was just a repeat of what we heard in March...

Maybe it is just you. Especially since WWDC extends through Friday — that was just the keynote. Did you actually watch the keynote, follow live feeds and photos, or just skim RSS headlines? Aside from minor quibbles (such as some people hoping for a front-facing camera on the iPhone) I don't see anything that a reasonable person could find to complain about. Personally, I was completely satisfied with the keynote and all the announcements. There will never be an Apple keynote with no naysayers, but this one was a big improvement over Macworld in January.

dont get me wrong, im always excited for keynotes, but this one was too hyped up. i was more impressed with the price drops and macbook upgrades than i was for the iPhone. the 3GS doesnt have enough extras to get me to upgrade just 8 months after my 2G to 3G upgrade.
*can someone PLEASE CLARIFY-does the new 3.0 software INCLUDE video recording/editing? or do you need to get the 3GS for the video portion? i think its included in 3.0 but now im just confused.

It would have been great to see Steve come out at the end and say..."oh, and just one more thing..."
;-)

@ quinn
yes i followed the live feed on gizmodo and the one on engadget-and by wwdc, i meant the keynote. nothing more will really be introduced, so after the keynote thats pretty much it (unless youre a dev or actually at wwdc)
also-i think i speak for a large chunk of people out there when i say it was lame. apples shares just dropped $4, and palms stock went back up.
too many rumors just didnt pan out, it was blown way up by everyone, and where was push? A2DP? and "one more thing"??, it just wasnt everything i hoped for.
i was more impressed when 3.0 was shown off the first time around.
and im sorry your name is quinn. that must be rough buddy.

Since the Palm Pre has a flash player doesn't that mean it has access to millions upon millions of apps?

The Pre does NOT have Flash capability.

Did I hear correctly that AT&T will NOT offer MMS or Teathering?
How soon can we drop AT&T??

ya-no tethering or mms for at&t. at&t should have been ahead of the game for this. if apple is implementing services that att will have to adjust for, shouldnt att have a heads up? i mean 3.0/mms was shown awhile ago, that should have been enough time for them to do something.
Mohulis said 10:21PM on 6-08-2009
Just to be clear AT&T is saying that they will support tethering, but no time frame as of when. Also, MMS "later this summer" with AT&T.
I'm not defending them - it sucks. Just wanted to make sure people understood it wasn't just "not supported". I'm pretty upset it won't be offered as soon as 3.0 comes out. Not to mention at least MMS should have been offered at the original launch, probly even tethering.

Just to be clear here, Apple's numbers are talking about "OS X", not "Mac OS X" as referenced in your article. Apple uses "Mac" to mean the desktop/computer variant and "OS X" to be for its derivatives, such as the iPhone and Apple TV OSes. I hate to nitpick here but you won't find "Mac" anywhere in those slides.

You're absolutely right! The article is wrong.
Watching the keynote, it clearly referenced 'OS X', including the iPhone OS as well as Mac OS.
