Apple Store coming to Naperville, Illinois
Next on Apple's retail domination tour: Naperville, IL. Reader Mike Heller wrote to tell us it'll be "on Jefferson Ave. just across from Lou Malnati's Pizza." He even sent some pics of the construction, which we've put in the gallery on this post. Next time you're in Naperville and have an Apple itch to scratch, you finally have a retail utopia to help you. No word if Microsoft will open up a retail store inside Lou's -- maybe a Zune vending machine, though?Share

Naperville is a fantastic place to live! With an average household income up near or above $130,000 a year, this is a spot on choice for a new location. Yes, Oakbrook is close, however the Naperville/Aurora/St.Charles area is so large that it will more than sustain this store. Apple doesn't just throw darts at a board. There is a reason they chose Naperville. The downtown area is probably the nicest suburban area i've been to, and I have lived on the East and West coast in various cities. Do you know how fast the Western Suburbs are growing? The Chicagoland area really is over 10 million people now, possibly 11, if you include the Indiana and Wisconsin areas, which is far suburbs of Chicago. Disregard the comments about Naperville, as many people dislike us because of our affluence, perceived snobbishness, or whatever their problems are. Outside of the city I wouldn't live anywhere else.

I looked on the web for the opening date and could not easily find it, so finally i just drove down there and asked the people working on it what date it would open; and they gladly told me!

They really should have thought this one through and tried to find another location where it isn't crowded, and is easy to park, like Woodfield, Michigan Ave or Oakbrook Center. Wait a minute, I have to walk a mile from the closest parking spot to get to any of those. Hmm. But they at least could have chosen a less crowded location, right. I mean, who wants crowds when you're trying to sell products. This will probably be the downfall of Apple.
Creston, IL would have been a much better choice. It's right down Roosevelt road (Rt 38) about an hour west of Oak Brook (so we wouldn't have to debate if it's too close to that Apple Store), with a population just below 600. You could totally find parking there, for your car or your horse. Stupid Apple.
The barrier covering the construction came down about a week ago. Even it was branded:

Once again, the corporate world ignores the fact that, yes, there is life in DOWNSTATE Illinois. And not Springfield--that place is a dump.

It is a high-end community so this would make sense. Also, between Naperville and Aurora (it's neighbor) you have the two of the five largest cities in Illinois. Also, cuts my trip to an Apple store in half, not that that matters to anyone but me.

August 04 2009 at 10:54 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhy the F*CK don't WE have an Apple store yet?! I have to drive at least an hour to get to the nearest Apple store. It's ridiculous, we have nearly half a million people here, and STILL no Apple store.
August 04 2009 at 6:59 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt would help if you told us who "WE" is. I agree that this the Apple Store per person ratio is getting a little silly in Chicagoland.

Bakersfield, CA. About an hour and 15 minutes north of LA.
Does anyone know when the store's opening? I heard it was on the 15th, but I'm not sure. And does anyone know what time it opens on the 15th?
