Phil Schiller: Holiday lineup in place

It's now safe to shop for Apple products without fear of getting burned by a last-minute release, at least for the next few months. Apple's senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing, Phil Schiller, told Gizmodo today that "... the holiday lineup is set." Apple typically does this in late autumn to simply let customers know that it's safe to start spending money.

Gizmodo notes that they originally stated, "No more Apple products this year," but they subsequently received a call from Apple asking (by "asking" we mean "telling" ) them to use the language, "The holiday lineup is set." Conspiracy theorists will say that means there could be new stuff still in the pipe, but we think it's just meant to get people in a shopping mood.

Actually, Gizmodo said that Brian said that Phil said that there would be "no more products this year". Then Apple called as said that Phil actually said that "the holiday lineup is set". Apple didn't call to ask or tell them to use the latter quote.

Do you remember the game telephone?

A friend of my wife's posted this on his Facebook...pretty much sums it up for me!

"I am so glad I don't need yet another operating system that fixes all of the stuff that was wrong with the last operating system. Thanks Mac!"

Get serious. It's never safe to buy a MacBook Pro. There's always a new one coming. The time to buy is when you're pretty sure that the current specs will still be enough to satisfy you once the new, better specs are available.

Good luck!

Exactly. Buy a Macbook Pro when it suits your needs for the next 4 years. The only safe time to buy a Macbook Pro if you are scared a new one will come out is immediately after a new model is released. And if you have a fear of getting burned, you have a shopping disorder.

Huh. So when Apple calls to "ask" you TUAW something, does it really mean "telling"?

You know, that picture of Phil makes him look like Mickey Rourke.

I'm really hoping he's only referring to hardware and not software, e.g. 10.6.2

People forget that it's different this time around. Apple isn't saving things for the first couple weeks of January. They're introducing their product line in time for Christmas now like everyone else does.

This could mean a release just after the holidays. You know, in those 5 days. On the other hand, it could mean updates to non-gift machines (XServe, Mac Pro) before the holidays season.
