Apple to hold media event on September 1st
It's official -- the media invites have just gone out from Apple to invite the select outlets to a company event on Wednesday, September 1st. That's a week earlier than BusinessWeek's prediction.Apple has historically used a September event to introduce new iPods and announce enhancements to the iTunes service. Apple TV, which is widely expected to be refreshed and relaunched (possibly with a naming/branding change to iTV), was originally introduced at a Fall event.
In addition to the anticipated Apple TV update, many analysts are predicting a 4th generation iPod touch (possibly with cameras), an iPad refresh, an iTunes update (likely to 9.3 or 10.0), and a TV episode rental scheme.
Regardless of what Apple introduces, TUAW will be virtually there to meta-liveblog the event, bringing you updates and analysis as they happen.

I hope so. I don't see the iPad as a notebook replacement, except on very short trips.
There will be no ipad update - hardware or software.
As Daring Fireball mentions there have been no iOS 4 beta for iPad at all so they couldn't just spring it on us.There could be the first iOS 4 beta for ipad i guess
thats not funny. don't even joke about that kind of stuff. there could have been children listening.

The lucky finders (heh, Finder :D) of these tickets will be allowed to tour Apple Headquarters and get to see all the places where the secret new devices are tested (and even get to mess with some of them). At the end of the tour, the one kid who didn't steal random Apple devices from various parts of the compound will be named as Steve's successor as CEO of Apple.
Count on it.
Hmmm, its funny how all five people who found a ticket happen to work at Foxconn... Interesting...

But let's Speculate Different.
A new iChannels service for iTunes. Your own iTunes library provides the initial iChannels, which are stream-able playlists.Streaming from your own library will likely require a MobileMe media backup subscription ("MobileTunes"?) for license management and bandwidth. (And Apple gots to make da money, yo.) Your ISP will go b*****t crazy if you and 40 million other iTunes users start streaming media UPstream and then DOWN to millions of iDevices and browsers. So it will be backed up to MobileMe or a dedicated iChannels service before it can be streamed. Apple likes 9s, so figure $5.99 a month for iChannels service. An IChannels plug-in for Safari will make it really cool and easy to find and use iChannels.
Commercial iChannels will include the broadcast networks, which will be able to charge on a per-episode basis. $0.99 for temporary viewing rights, $1.99 to add it to your library to view anytime. You can view whatever is available anywhere you have a connection.
iChannels renders things like Slingbox pretty much obsolete bandwidth hogs, and provide the excuse for cable providers to ban them. (Sorry. I have one, so I know how it feels...)
So how do you watch iChannels on your huge HDTV at home? An iPod with HDMI out and IR transceiver brings your TV into the iOS ecosystem. Initially the HDMI+IR piece could be an accessory for iOS4 devices. By Christmas, there will be a dedicated, screenless device for TVs. Call it iTuner ("iTV" is locked down pretty hard). Existing Apple TVs will also be able to use iChannels in Front Row, but will be discontinued. IPods will have more features than iTuners, though, like FaceTime support. What about your old iPod? It's the world's best iRemote and can view iChannels over the network.
I'm wondering if the iPod Nano could get a Facetime update too. Small screen, but still would be cool, and it would allow many more millions of Facetime devices.

New iMac with IOS5 and touch screen.
iPad II can use tethering on iPhone.
Oops, sorry, that's September 2011.
ITV is a major british TV broadcaster, so Apple will not introduce a product called iTV because it would be unmarketable in the UK because of trademark infringement.
Both the iPhone and iPad had potential trademark issues before they came out. Doesn't mean the same will happen for iTV, but it could.
August 25 2010 at 7:36 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyUK laws don't matter in the rest of the world. In the UK they could call it aTV or uTV if they wanted. It is sort of like Lexan and the strange name for it in Britain.
In any event i have a hard time believing it will be called iTV for other reasons.
