HD Movies hit iTunes UK

Good news for Apple fans in the UK: Apple has finally added HD movies to the iTunes store. The selection seems to be rather limited for now. MacRumors notes that Twilight is among the more high-profile selections. Pricing works like this: movies that sell for £9.99 in standard definition are £12.99 in HD, while those priced at £6.99 for SD are selling for £7.99 in HD.

Until now, HD movies were only available to rent in the UK. The Japanese market only received movies in iTunes last month (SD and HD) while in the U.S., Apple added HD movies to the iTunes Store in March of 2009.

Here's a shot of Eclipse in iTunes on the desktop.

iTunes UK has had HD movies for sale for months, just not recent movies.

and where is Australia in all of this? Seriously, our country is so far behind and the tariff on all of the store content is ridiculous! $24.99 for a new release movie (in SD) is just plain stupid.

Why would anyone download Kristen Staurts terrible acting in HD?

They won't sell much with those prices. Has to be much cheaper than bluray as the hd download is no where near the bit-rate of a full bluray

When will the film market catch on. People wont spend that money on a download. A few quid maybe but no way 15

Pathetic. I bought Iron Man 2 (Don't judge!) triple play from Tesco for £14.99.
For that I get the Blu-Ray, DVD and iTunes download.

So now it plays on my PS3, my iPhone, my Macs and my mum's dusty old DVD player. Or I can just pay most of that to be limited to Apple sanctioned devices only.

No thanks.

(also, title should be "HD movie purchases hit iTunes UK" right?)

Out of all the movies, did you just HAVE to use that one?

£12.99 to buy is stupid when you can get the Blu-Ray disc DELIVERED for cheaper. I'd be interested when this gets cheaper. Much cheaper. Otherwise, there's still torrents.

Why would you pay if you could get them for free?

I have never had any interest in buying movies of any kind from iTunes but why has it taken so long?
