Apple revamps/rebrands discussion forums as Apple Support Communities

Throughout the day we've had a number of readers contact us to say the Apple Discussion Forums were down. Now we know why. Apple has just launched Apple Support Communities, a revamped discussion forum with the focus on allowing Mac and iOS users to find answers to their questions quickly and easily.
Don't worry, if you've started or replied to any topics in the past, all your old posts are still there. What the Apple Support Communities redesign does is add nifty little features, like an easier-to-browse forum, the ability to "like" any post, and even the ability to upload images so that you can show everyone just what it is you are talking about ("See! I get two beach balls, not one!"). Head on over to the support communities and check them out. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Also, you can check out a walk-through of all the new features here.

I am having the same problem as Larry (message posted on 05-03-2011) and find that nothing seems to fix the problem. I've been a member for many years. I just want it to work - pretty pissed off.
May 30 2011 at 11:35 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI've had the same Apple ID for years and it works just fine in iTunes and in the Apple ID management area. However, I can't login to the new Support Communities...gives me a page that says "my Apple ID can't be created due to system errors."
I feed this page my email address and description of the problem and SEND...nothing happens. I've done this at least 10 times since the new communities went live. Any ideas how to fix this? I have some unanswered questions that were on the discussion boards before the change.
I have tried multiple computers, change passwords, changed it back, removed cookies, etc. but nothing works.
gosh all they want to do is what Adobe has done, keep you from seeing any real problems.
A Hard to Navigate site, seems to be the corporate solution to keeping the users at bay, and increase sales.
On my way to check it out & hoping for an improved experience (and not just looks!)

1.1 steps forward, 1.0 steps backward.
I don't think I've ever seen any Apple employee ever "support" anyone through their forums.
Here's to hoping they're actually changing their policy on their staff answering questions and not just making a misleading cosmetic change.
I use to respond all the time to users in the MBA forum when I had my little Apple logo. Under the user "Softreset."
April 17 2011 at 9:21 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThat's good to know! I guess I never noticed among the all the noise in some of the 20+ page threads. :)
April 17 2011 at 9:39 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI think - I hope - they are redefining support discussions because they intend to treat them as a broader part of life in the Apple community.
Those who know my style of blogging may now pick themselves up off of the floor. Though I truly prefer my life as hermit living with another hermit - I understand the virtues and usefulness of being a social animal. I simply choose not to participate except through electronic media - and hardly any of those forms dedicated to socializing.
Many have felt that Apple treats the forums in question only as a place to watch for symptoms, problems developing. Instant feedback. This change feels like the change, for example, that DirecTV made with the dbstalk forum - moving from observer to allow employees to participate within the bounds of NDA.
Knowledgeable participation from the mother ship.
I think I'll drop by that Apple site, once in a while, now.
Perhaps I may FINALLY get an answer to my iPhone-reboots-five-minutes-into-very-phone-call problem.
April 17 2011 at 4:57 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe answer to that is to take it to a store for a repair
April 17 2011 at 5:01 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhich I can't because my iPhone 3GS is older than a year, and a repar would cost me over 200â¬, according to Apple. It is a well-known problem with iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.0. There's a 150+ page discussion in the support forums, but Apple doesn't respond at all.
April 17 2011 at 5:08 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYou could already upload images.
April 17 2011 at 3:55 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhen I saw "the ability to 'like' any post", I thought they had switched to XenForo. Disappointed when I saw it was still some pile of JSP code.
I've never used their official support forums because I didn't like the feel of them, but I may give them another chance now.
There are a number of very active, well informed members there that have helped me out many times.
I've been on the board since 2001 (Earlier, actually. An Apple 'upgrade' to the boards in the first couple of years wiped out our start dates and post numbers, oops).
