Apple launches 'Apple Customer Pulse' feedback site

Apple has launched a new site called Apple Customer Pulse which allows select users of Apple's products to submit feedback on a variety of issues. Currently the site is only accessible to those users who have received an email invite from Apple. Several TUAW reads have contacted us saying they have received invites, but there is no firm way to know what the total numbers of invitees are or how Apple goes about choosing them.

The site launched quietly a few weeks ago and represents an expanded effort on Apple's part to generate relevant and focused customer feedback. MacRumors did some digging and found out the site is administered by Socratic Technologies, a San Francisco-based market research firm that has worked with other tech companies, including Adobe. A WhoIs search lists the domain management MarkMonitor Brand Protection, a company Apple frequently uses to secure domain names. Additionally, the administrative registrant contact is Apple's Ken Eddings.

Everything about this web site looks fake to me. The domain (why isn't it under apple.com or the very least a subdomain of apple.com?), the technology (13 year old ASP, running on Windows servers), the quality (a lot of links are dead) and the speed (every request to the site takes at least 10 seconds to complete). I wouldn't offer the site more than my IP address; anything else will surely be thoroughly abused.

if they ask me, I'll be happy to give them a piece of my mind on,
a) my white CrackBook ($2100 of poor quality plastics!)
b) my iPhone 4, where the home button no longer works properly (or at all).

Definitely fake. It reeks of a malware site.

Yep, definitely fake. They're using asp to serve the pages (a microsoft technology) and an outdated version of jquery for ui elements. Apple uses neither (in fact I don't think they use jquery at all on their site).

I am also suspicious of this site. There are little design flaws that I would be shocked to find on an apple site. For example, on the main page there's no hover on the leftmost navigation link. Also, if you increase/decrease the font size on the page things align improperly.

I don't think you should be passing this off as legitimate, TUAW.

Also, the very idea of Apple doing market research just seems off to me. They're always saying that they want to skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it is, and that if you ask people what they want then they'll tell you 'a faster horse' rather than opening their minds to a car. Now they're all about focus groups and 'customer pulse'? I'm not buying it.
