iOS 5 reportedly transmits Album/Track/Artist data to Bluetooth audio devices

9to5 Mac notes another unsung feature of iOS 5: when you stream music over Bluetooth to an audio receiver, that receiver will now be able to read the album, track and artist data embedded in the ID3 tag of the song. What that means is your receiver's display (such as one you might find in a newer car like the Prius) will now show you all that information instead of saying something generic like "track 03." Ah, the future is almost here.

Before IOS5 my iphone4's bluetooth worked great with a Boston Acoustics soundbar (bluetooth sent the signal from my phone to the speakers). Now it wont play but my ipod (not upgraded yet) continues to work fine just as version4.3 did on the iphone. Obviously the new upgrade has done something to the bluetooth. :(

Whoa, I didn't even notice that. I only started playing my iPhone via stereo after I updated to iOS5. Pretty neat.

Works great on a 2011 BMW 335i w/ idrive (combox), for the iphone app at least. Not sure if metadata is supposed to stream for other apps such as Pandora.

I had different behavior using my iPad running iOS 5 paired to my Mazda 6. Im not sure if this is an issue with iOS 5 on the iPad or my Car.. But it def didn't display track information:

I saw this same behavior last night in my toyota camry with the factory upgraded JBL stereo. I was genuinely surprised to see all of it there.

I don't suppose that iOS 5 or the next iPhone is going to support the RSAP profile, is it? I'm not really that bothered about playing music in my car by Bluetooth since I have an old 80GB iPod that I just leave in there but being able to place or receive calls would be nice. Having effectively paid for the bluetooth kit in our car it kinda sucks that the world's most popular phone doesn't actually work with it. My wife's old Nokia, however, works just fine with it...

I own a BET Sony Bluetooth headunit...when I load up iOS 5 I'll be sure to test it out. I'm sure some manufacturers will have to do some firmware upgrades...not sure how Sony goes about that.

This works on my Sony DSXS300BTX, but is still buggy. For instance, the track information only updates when there is a state change on the phone's iPod (fast forward, rewind, pause). Merely flowing from one track to the next, the display will remain on the original track until a button is pressed on the unit.

i have the same radio and it seems to work fairly well. have you ever found a work around for the bug with the iPhone's A2DP and handsfree issue?

i have seen good audio quality through bluetooth and have been holding out on getting a specifically designed stereo for the iphone because all of them get some things right but don't have the total package i am looking for it is good that they opened this up to allow for more stereo's to fit the bill.

Sounds great, but why would you want it? Bluetooth music streaming sounds like garbage. Unless they're also building something into the stereos that can make it sound better... even thing I would stay with direct digital conversion.
