Steve Jobs reportedly worked on campus for his final day as CEO

For many of us who were surprised by yesterday's announcement that Steve Jobs was resigning as CEO of Apple, our immediate thought was that his health might have deteriorated to the point that he was no longer able to work on the Apple campus in Cupertino, CA. However, a source reported to Bloomberg Businessweek that Jobs spent the entire day on the Apple campus before attending the board meeting where he tendered his resignation as CEO and accepted his post as Apple chairman.

The source, who Bloomberg Businessweek reported as "not authorized to speak about his health," said that Jobs was "weak" but that the resignation was "not indicative of a sudden downturn." Jobs has apparently been housebound recently, but his work yesterday and his declaration that he plans on being an active board chairman seem to point to a future where Steve Jobs still has his eyes on the fortunes of Apple.

I think Steve has no intention of disappearing. More like "Go tell dad. Don't bother me with that stuff," followed by doing the things he wants to.

You want a guy in the CEO spot with energy to burn. And you want a creative guy like Jobs to burn whatever energy he has in the most interesting way.

I'm glad to hear that it isn't indicative of a sudden down turn health wise. It would be a shame of Steve wasn't there to cut the ribbon for the grand opening of the new Apple campus when it opens.

Jobs is done but left his mark on every corner of wireless technology. It only leaves us asking who won the war between the two titans of modern computer technology? Steve Jobs vs. Bill Gates / Apple vs. Microsoft– check out my rendering of an epic match-up of their cyborg selves on my artist's blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/08/end-of-era-steve-jobs.html

If his health hasn't taken a sudden downturn, this is a pretty good time for Jobs to resign: You get the stock price dip out of the way at a time when a lot of people are on vacation. iPhone 5 shows up a few weeks later to give the Cook team a quick win under their belts. People lining up in front of Apple Stores reminds the market that Apple's still a pretty good investment, helping to recoup the losses.

Exactly, even if he doesn't HAVE to do it yet this is a great time to get positive news right back out there. Not to mention iPad 3 just another few months into the Cook era.

He also beat out Exxon-Mobile for the top spot on Wall Street... even if just for a few days... that's going out on top. iPhone 5 and iPad 3 are sure to be big hits so the company has ANOTHER solid year in front of it.

Mr. Cook has HUGE shoes to fill!

This is sad news on;y because of his health problems. It really shows that money can't buy you everything. One of the most wealthy, forward thinking, important, influential and persuasive human beings of the era of computers can't buy his way out of the health issues he has.

I am sure that succession plans have been thought about and nothing is being left to chance. This is VERY different than the last time he left Apple, he is doing it on his terms, putting all his ducks in a row and everything in place while he still has time to do so. The investors SHOULD see this as a sign of strength for Apple that it is happening now and not when he passes. He has a family to think of and someday perhaps his daughter will take over to carry on her father's legacy.

If you are going to be a turd, please go sit in the toilet. SJ's retirement is THE BIGGEST Apple news of the decade. It is THE BIGGEST tech news of this month. It will affect not only Apple, but every other tech company that copies from Apple (which is all of them).

Get a clue.
