Survey shows Steve Jobs' absence not deterring Apple's customers
A ChangeWave survey suggests Steve Jobs' resignation as CEO of Apple will have little impact on the future sales of Apple hardware. Between September 6 and 12, ChangeWave surveyed 2,297 respondents and found that only 4% of people would be less likely to buy Apple products now that Jobs is gone. 89% said Jobs' resignation will have little to no effect on their future purchasing decisions.
These results are not surprising at this point. The iPhone and iPad are market leaders and the rest of Apple's product lineup is robust. And it's not like Jobs has completely left the company, he is still actively involved in Apple as Chairman of the Board.
It's a change for Apple, but not the end of Apple. As Jobs wrote in his resignation letter, "Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it."

Jobs is done but left his mark on every corner of wireless technology. It only leaves us asking who won the war between the two titans of modern computer technology? Steve Jobs vs. Bill Gates / Apple vs. Microsoft– check out my rendering of an epic match-up of their cyborg selves on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/08/end-of-era-steve-jobs.html

Of course no one is going to say that they will stop buying Apple products because Steve is not there, but that has NOTHING TO DO with their ACTIONS. Steve Jobs was Apple's chief salesperson - it is unlikely that anyone else can do as good a job. Nevertheless, Apple will continue to dominate the tech arena in other ways and the products will have to just sell themselves.

All he has done is the keynotes.
Why would it make any difference a few weeks later? They still sell products that people want. If anything it would be years down the line when Apple strays away from what Jobs would do but I am sure that the succession plan that was put into place would have been ready for that. Jobs has a family to think about and they will become the largest shareholders when his time comes, so of course this was all thought about before he stepped down.

It was a kind of slow progression but Apple's product slowly slid from high quality coolness to cheap crap that drove me into the PC Windows 98 2nd edition world.
If Jobs were to completely leave but the priority remained to be high quality coolness then Apple would likely thrive in his complete absense. I have a sense that this time around Jobs has put all the right people in the right places to keep the company strong for many years to come with or without him.
Jobs always wanted a computer as an appliance, one that most anyone could just pick up and use. I think with the iPhone he achieved that dream. If he were to walk away today he can do so having realized his ultimate dream.

Jobs leaving hasn't affected people's intention to buy Apple products...because Apple products haven't changed yet. When they do, then we'll see. If they continue to get better, people will continue to buy them. If they get worse, people will stop. Simple as that. If Ballmer left MS, would you rush out and buy a copy of Windows 7? See my point?
September 15 2011 at 3:08 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIf Ballmer left MS, I'd run out the next day and buy a copy of Windows 7. And preorder Windows 8. Whatever it takes to encourage further good decision making.
