Al Gore praises Apple Board at All Things D conference

Al Gore, Former Vice President and member of the Apple board of Directors, sat down with Walt Mossberg at the recent AsiaD conference held in Hong Kong last week. Besides environmental issues and politics, Gore also talked about Steve Jobs, Apple and its board of Directors. Gore has served on Apple's board since 2003.

Gore had nothing but good things to say about the members of Apple's Board of Directors and praised them for making difficult decisions throughout Steve Jobs's protracted illness.

I have the deepest respect for my fellow board members, we're all very good friends... I think that people who specialize in kibitzing about these things - I respect them, it's good for them to think about this kind of stuff, but I wouldn't change a thing about the way the Apple board has operated.

Apple's board has been criticized in the past for withholding information about Steve Jobs's illness and for not publicizing its CEO accession plan.

Howie: I suspect Al Gore was on the board to give guidance and respectability for Apple Pro-Earth policies. He is not a nut job.. like everyone that watches Fox news.

Howie,

1.) Gore has been associated with Apple for years and years. He has experience in Silicon Valley venture capital (Kleiner Perkins, ect.)
2.) How is Gore "a nut"? The incident you mention had such flimsy evidence associated with it, that after years of looking into it and interviews with the woman, who was seeking money from National Enquirer, the police had to finally close the case.
3.) You can use both terms, either "global warming" or "climate change". They work in a chain of events. The greenhouse effect causes warming, which in turn causes climatic changes.
4.) One of Gore's primary stances was that high technology could actually lead to fossil fuel REDUCTIONS. LED screens for example.

Have they ever really been criticized in the past for withholding information about Steve Jobs's illness and for not publicizing its CEO accession plan? I've never heard anybody saying that, I thought everybody thought it was sort of fair enough since you're dealing with such an unpredictable and horrible illness

Why is this guy a member of the board? I know that Steve Jobs wanted him to join the board, but why? He doesn't appear to be useful to Apple in any way. Gore is a total nut, and his behavior with a massage therapist in a hotel that he was staying in shows that he's not a very ethical person. His global warming... er um... climate change agenda seems to stand against the technology industry since computers consume a great deal of electricity, and thus, create demand for fossil fuels.
