Dvorak drones on about Apple’s demise. Yawn.

steve jobs can\'t do it all? doesn\'t look that way to me…

You know, in this world there are Mac bashers, and then there are reasonable folks. Guess which camp John Dvorak falls into. This particular bit of tripe is even more over the top than his usual.

I about bust a gut over this bit of expert analysis: “Jobs cannot be in the computer business, the movie business, and the music business and make them all successful. You see the results. Market share for the Mac is crap.” Uh huh. Right. Because computers, movies and music just have *absolutely nothing to do with each other.* No overlap there. Of course, this depends on what century you’re writing in, and I think this guy’s not yet come out of his cave in this one. He also clearly either hasn’t been reading any major media, or must think that Forbes, Time and Billboard are all on crack.

Something *is* crap here, but it’s not Apple. It’s this guy’s shoddy journalism and neanderthal analysis of markets.

I stopped reading this guy's columns back in 1987 (or there abouts) when he wrote that the Mac Plus was going to fail because the keyboard was too small to put on your lap. He totally failed to see what the Mac was about then, and still misses the point. I am surprised he is still writing about Macs, after all they were dead 20 years ago according to him.

Dvorak is a pathetic old troll.. It's as simple as that.

Actually, he makes some useful observations. Even among my very tech savvy coworkers (a bunch of Java developers) the Mac is viewed as overpriced and really only good for artsy types. I recently bought a 1.4Ghz iBook and bring it in to work. We use it for code reviews (in eclipse)since it's the only laptop around, and that's gone a long way towards changing their opinion. Now they understand that Macs are not more expensive than *comparably spec'd* PCs, and that you can do everything on a Mac that you can on a Wintel systems (and usually more easily).

This guy has been rehashing the same crap ever since they booted him out of MacUser. He prdicted the iMac was going to fail. Blah blah blah. He is always off base completely. He bashes Apple and Mac to feel relevant. If he writes about anything else, I'm sure he gets minimal reponse. Bash Aplle, in box flooded with response. It's his way of asking "is anyone reading this?"

Ironically, if you look close enough at the W3C numbers that Dvorak is refering to, the trend shows that the Mac is picking up market share.

This is standard fare for Dvorak. He likes to create controversy. It's good for his numbers...

Funny...Dvorak has trouble being successful in one, no wonder he doesn't understand. If he didn't bash Apple/Jobs on a regular basis he'd have no readers at all. :-)
