Landmarks Commission contemplating Apple's third NYC store design

The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC), which oversees the design approval process within the Ladies Mile Historic District limits, is getting grief from the district's community board about Apple's architectural plans for New York's Flatiron District.

One board member slammed the latest building proposal for an Apple mini-store, calling it "brutally modern" and urging the LPC to reject Apple's plans for the second time.  This, after the first proposal had already been denied a Certificate of Appropriateness due in part to a too-bright backlit Apple logo and too-glitzy facade. There's another hearing scheduled for tomorrow (July 26) where Apple will try to convince the commission to sign off on the new plans without the support of the community board.

My advice? Forget about a third Manhattan location and come to Brooklyn! There's a fabulous bit of brand-spanking new retail space available right here in tony Brooklyn Heights that my neighbors and I would welcome you to with open arms.

Dammit apple! I need a store in my closet because I can't get my lazy butt out the door! Your Mail order service should only take 10 minutes from sending my order to receiving it at my door and put a second damn button on your mouse!

Apple... you need another store on Long Island... Screw the roosevelt field one, its too small, always crowded... and the genius bar?! i waited 3 hours to see someone! (Not during a "rush hour" either) so... please close your roosevelt field store, and open a nice retail store somewhere in the same area. or make the roosevelt field one a Mini store and still open retail store Sincerely... Travis

Open letter to Apple.
Dear Apple, Please build a store in Fort Worth Texas. New York has too many stores as it is. The town of the cow needs a good place to pick up Apple products. Driving all the way to Dallas is a beating, plus the Dallasites are retards. Their big hair, big boobs and big SUV's make it hard to maneuver the Knox/Henderson area. Thanks

Wow...Apple is tearing down an old building and replacing it with a modern new two story building. What's wrong with that? Apple probably could build a nice building in the same architectural style of the area though.
