Apple.com Back in Time

Yeah, I posted about this in Apple Discussions too... about a week ago... but anyway, I thought I had seen a page in archives where an Intel chip had already been used in a Mac a long time ago. It was late though, maybe I was seeing things again.

The Powerbook listed there is the first gen PBG3 (codename Kanga if I remember right??). This is before the Wallstreet re-design which rejuvenated Apple's design ethic, and basically paved the road for the iMac and G3 B & W towers (no, I'm not comparing the too, just speaking of a more design oriented focus).

you sure it's 98? i bought a lombard back around 98, and that $5000 laptop is not the lombard, and my lombard did not cost 5k. but it was pretty darn expensive at around 3k... yikes!

Indeed... i remember paying around 5k for a 400MHz Powerbook around 1999, I also later in that year spent another 800 or so in a new LCD after I dropped the laptop, and i think around the same amount again later when I broke the power interface from the mainboard. None of those being AppleCare covered of course. In the end that Powerbook was the most expensive computer I've ever owned. It was a real trooper though, and a great work-horse; went with me to far off places from Germany, to muddy Kosovo and Macedonia.

Gee, there's a picture of a guy in the Intel Factory's clean suit (for lack of a better name). I thought that the Postal Service was the first ones to ever come up with that clever bit of imagery.

Speaking of the Mac, I'm surprised not one website I've looked at today mentions that it's the Mac's birthday today. Someone better get a move on.
