What was it he got? An 'honour' or an 'honor'? As he's British, I'd say 'honour'.
"SUB!!!"

Did he receive the honour today or on New Years?

He 'received' it in the New Year's honours list, but was given it today. i.e. it was announced in January but there are only so many ceremonies a year so he picked it up, as it were, today.
And yes, it's 'honour' not 'honor'. There are no such things as Honors to give out, it's a proper noun, not an adjective.
Pedantry is still spelt the same way though ;-)

Jonny Ive, as I'm sure no-one calls him, was awarded the honour in the New Years honours list, but did not actually receive it (commonly known as the CBE)personally from Queenie until yesterday in a ceremony at Bucks Palace, London, England.

and while we're all being pedantic, the honour that he was awarded is Commander OF The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, not IN!!

"According to a Macworld article, Ive received this honor at the Queen's New Year Honours ceremony."
When I first read that, I read it as "I've received this honor" :p
