Flickr Find: Lehigh Valley Apple Store grand opening

The Lehigh Valley Apple Store opened its doors yesterday in Whitehall, Pennsylvania, and TUAW readers were there with cameras in hand. Mike Hoff sent a whole flickr set of pics from the event, including pics of those trendy geniuses, and all the blessed souls who made the journey to stand in the awe of a brand new Apple Store. Ron also sent us photos as well, and while pulling up Photo Booth is fun, I always like to leave TUAW on the screen whenever I'm at the Apple Store. Y'know, like a little hint.

And Ryan Joseph sent not only his flickr set of pics, but a firsthand account of the happenings-- apparently the Apple opening got a little spillover from a Pottery Barn opening, and vice versa. Good thing the two were separated before anything serious happened-- we could have seen Mac Pros outfitted with their own accented lighting before the day was through. Ryan also grabbed what sounds like a cool tshirt (which he didn't show off in the flickr set!) that says "Designed by Apple in California." I'm confused-- does that mean they designed the shirt, or the person inside it?

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I just missed it, I was in PA yesterday dropping off something for an eBay sale. The new store was 7 miles away, but was closing in 45 minutes. I wouldn't have gotten there wiht much time to look around. Besides, I had been in the car for 2 hours, and had another 2 hours drive to go. I just wanted to get home. So, no new Applle store for me.

Ha, I can see myself waiting in line in a couple of the pictures.

Yes, the shirts have "[Apple Logo] Lehigh Valley" on the front and "Designed by Apple in California" on the back. The XL size fits me OK, and I'm 6'3". I was surprised when I asked on the employees that they all were a generic size, but I guess it's cheaper that way. They came in a rather creatively built cardboard box too.

Wow, you're right! I didn't include pictures of the shirts! Anyway, they're up there now. :-) It really was a good time. If another Apple Store opens nearby, I'll definitely be going!

It's been too long since I've been back to the Lehigh Valley.

Is that the same Lehigh Valley Mall where I learned to try and pick up girls form parkland?

I don't know -- call me cynical, but seeing all that clapping just makes me think "Jobstown." My attitude about Apple, rock-steady since my first Apple experience in 1979, has taken a 180 over the past couple of months. The second Mac-minded people start drinking the kool-aid is the second they stop being Mac-minded people. IMHO.

Cheers,
FL

I'd like to pause and thank Kevin for giving me concrete reasons to never buy Apple again. Thanks man, I doubt anyone will ever find a flaw with an argument like that.

(For the humor-impaired: I'm using sarcasm.)

When are they going to open an Apple Store in PHILADELPHIA?! I hate having to go to Bundy on Chestnut Street, or out to Ardmore.

Seriously, there's no shortage of primo Philly real estate to open an Apple store in. What's the hold up?

I once went to the opening of the Southpark store in North Carolina and I got a free shirt then. It's just a white XL shirt with a blue glossy apple on the front and it says the sore name under it. On the back it says "Designed by Apple in California".

I stopped wearing it though because it had an Apple logo and said "Southpark" below it and everyone assumed it was some kind of inside joke from the TV show. I got tired of explaining it.

The store is about 2 minutes from my house, me and my friends were in the first group to go in through the tunnel of employees clapping. My first opening, Simply Awesome.
