Two more Apple Stores confirmed for New York City
Cheer up, New Yorkers! Sure, the Red Sox beat your Yankees last night and you're now in 3rd place in the AL East, but there's good news, too!ifoAppleStore is reporting that two new Apple Stores have been confirmed for The Big Apple. First, the borough of Brooklyn will host a store, either in the downtown area or in Williamsburg -- in other words, your guess is as good as ours.
The location of the 2nd store is more certain. Earlier this week, it was all but confirmed that a store will be built at 23 Wall Street. And don't worry, the construction workers have promised not to bury a Big Papi jersey in the foundation.

Yeah, I changed jobs last year and went from a building with a Starbucks in the lobby to a building with a Starbucks in the lobby. The constants in life are reassuring.
I suppose the market here can bear additional outlets, but five in one city seems a little excessive. (And still none at Times Square or Herald Square. What gives?)

They just keep on piling stores into NY while Canada is left almost completely in the cold.

Wow, Wall Street? Steps from work! And that building is really impressive. It's been empty for a while, and I think already undergoing some sort of renovation.
And... Williamsburg?! OK, it's choked with hipsters but really, really out of the way for the rest of us. If it wasn't for Wall Street I'd be stuck with SoHo still--which is still out of the way for me but at least not too far from work.

While I do agree that one in Philly would be cool, I have to say, drive down I95 for 45 minutes (not during rush hour) and go to the one in the Christian Mall for Tax Free Apple goodness in Deleware!

Of course NY is happy. 2 more Apple Stores and a first place New York Mets team.
Who are those Yankees you speak of?

Why the hell do New Yorkers need so many Apple Stores? Can't they walk very far or something?
Australia has yet to get its first Apple store, and we're an entire country.

Erm, there are millions upon millions of people in New York and the surrounding boroughs. I don't think it's as much about people being lazy as the # of people per store. In addition to all of the natives, NYC is one of the largest tourist destinations on the planet.
Having been to all 3 NYC stores, I can tell you that there's always traffic in there, particularly at the 5th Ave Cube.
I agree that we could really use one somewhere in-between 33rd and 40th, somewhere around 6th - Broad. Lots of traffic around Penn Station, the Empire State Building, Times Sq, Herald Sq, etc. Let's throw an Apple store in there!
I do feel for the cities and states that have no Apple stores, or very few of them. NC has 3 in the whole state, and many more are needed. But, I do not feel that adding more stores to NYC and the surrounding areas is unwarranted. And there definitely need to be a few more scattered across Long Island.

meh, they need to stop putting them in NYC and build elsewhere. If I need something I either have to go 2 hours to the palisades, 2 hours to NYC, or go however long it takes for me to get to danbury.

Come on, is two more necessary? I mean, while it's good that Apple is getting more stores everywhere, they're leaving millions of people and places left in the cold.
Canada, Australia and England all have very few (if any at all) but there are millions of people in each of these countries dying to buy new iPods and iPhones, and other Apple-y goodness. They should concentrate on how much money they can get from Apple stores in other countries on the whole before working on individual cities.
And England in particular, we pay them MORE than Americans do (Exchange rates FTL) so give us some more Apple stores, please ;)

I have to say, given how empty the Rockafeller store is off hours, i'm a little surprised. Granted both it and the SOHO store get pretty steady business through a day, but I wouldn't have thought the demand for a store at wallstreet would exist... in fairness tho, for residents there it's a PITA to get crosstown. Brooklyn doesn't surprise me...Queens must be coming soon. Litchfield mall shop does good business too. Still 9 million people, i'm sure they wil stay busy.

Yeah, Brooklyn! Word on the street is that there is some significant retail space available at One Hanson Place, also known as the Williamsburgh Savings Bank. Ironically enough, it is not in Williamsburgh, but downtown Brooklyn/Fort Greene area. It would be perfect for an Apple store as there are a lot more transportation options to Atlantic Avenue than there are to Williamsburgh, which is completely isolated from the rest of the borough and city.
Here's a rendering of what the space might look like, if anyone is interested:
