MobileMe announced
Today Apple demoed the much anticipated MobileMe application that we were tipped to last month. Currently, we were correct in what we thought would be the features list:- Web version of mail, calendars, and contacts (look similar to desktop apps)
- Old .Mac users will be transitioned over to MobileMe when it launches
- Launch in early July
- Same $99 /year price that we've all come to expect
- Sync between iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, and PCs

Beyond the excellence of this for friends and families Apple has released a fully credible alternative to Microsoft's license-heavy platform for small businesses at a fraction of the cost.
And it even gives Google Apps a run for its money.
Way to go Apple!

Yay! We still get to keep our @mac.com addresses after the transition!
Thank you apple. I was scared for a moment.

Hey, I missed that part...are you sure we get to keep our .Mac addresses??
PSM said 3:12PM on 6-09-2008
It says that on the website.
But what I want to know is, since I have to wait an agonizing 32 days to get an iPhone, can I have push on my WinMo phone from MobileMe?
Teo said 3:23PM on 6-09-2008
And no, you have to wait for MobileMe to launch for you to start getting push e-Mail...

MobileMe is what FirstClass was offering seven years ago. Apple tried to buy FirstClass in the 90s but instead offered up Apple Powermail servers that couldn't compete.
Everything MobileMe does, I was doing with FirstClass and my Blackberry and my Mac seven years ago.

Oddly enough me.com isn't live yet. It was previously owned by SnappVille, err, I think Me.com owned SNAPP! and once they sold me.com to Apple, they moved to snappville. Still, it's odd that Apple doesn't have the new site up yet.

I am disappointed by lack of feature and/or capacity limited free offering, especially with competitors (e.g., Google, Microsoft) giving similar products away. I realize it costs Apple money to develop these web apps, but I would not mind seeing ads in its place.

Just got the e-mail that says we get to keep our @mac.com suffix! Or we can choose to use the @me.com, the choice is ours.

According to the MobileMe FAQ, websites will still be accessible from either their original URL or a me.com URL. Registered domains will still work too.
