Quicktime 7.5 is available
QuickTime 7.5 was released earlier today via Software Update. According to Apple, this update "...improves application compatibility and addresses security issues."Often, Quicktime updates coincide with iTunes updates. Since we know that the 3G iPhone will require iTunes 7.7, we suspect that's what the "application compatibility" refers to. Apple recommends this release for all QuickTime 7 users. Note that a restart is required.
Thanks, MarkAbre!

There are too many things on the system that use the Quicktime libraries to safely let you upgrade without rebooting.

After what happened not too long ago I'm afraid to upgrade for fears it'l screw up After Effects again.
Someone braver then me should try it though...

Just fyi - I downloaded this update and now my Safari won't open. Crashes upon start. Wondering if it's related...

Quicktime playback has always been awful for me ever since upgrading to leopard, particularly fullscreen -- but this update has actually made it worse. Now native quicktime files (.mov) exported right from final cut pro play back choppy without even going into fullscreen. Fullscreen playback is still choppy no matter the file (of course the oddities are that dragging the window to fill my screen produces no issues but as soon as I enter full screen mode the problems start). And did I mention that everything works just fine in Front Row and VLC? It's just Quicktime Player and iTunes that decided they want to be big bags of douche.
As a video editor this is becoming a real pain the the neck... and the fact that apple doesn't seem to care (the last so called "genius" I visited claimed they didn't notice a difference and that I must just have a good eye... right, like you couldn't see the framerate drop literally by 50%)

i noticed the same thing when i had perian installed for divx codecs, once u turn it off in system preferences it fixes the framerate issue, i noticed it big time on apple trailers.

Turning off perian does seem to fix the problems I've had with fullscreen for divx movies -- however playback of native quicktime files (.mov, .m4v, etc.) is still bad, infact worse than it's ever been.
This is getting rediculous.

After removing the XviD and DivX components in the QT folder I discovered it broke the XviD component. Oh wells.

if you're using the Perian component, simply reinstall it (perian.org). Worked for me.

For some reason, I can't update my quicktime. I am told that my password is incorrect but I know it is my correct password. Thoughts?

Installed QT 7.5 update last night -- after restart I can no longer play 480p HD movie trailers from the QuickTime site. They will play, but VERY choppy. To see the trailers I now have to revert to the non-HD "large" size trailers. Even scrolling up and down in a long MS Word is now very choppy. This looks like a poor upgrade.

ARRGH! Safari & Firefox have started crashing repeatedly immediately after installing 7.5 ! And to think 10.5.3 had just started to settle down and be "Tiger like reliable".
