Apple offers MobileMe 60-day extension
For the second time in so many months, Apple has offered MobileMe subscribers a free extension of their current subscription. Earlier today, an email was delivered to customers stating that they'd receive a 60-day extension of their MobileMe subscription, in addition to the 30 days offered in July."We are working very hard to make MobileMe a great service we can all be proud of," the message reads. "We know that MobileMe's launch has not been our finest hour, and we truly appreciate your patience as we turn this around."
Thanks, Apple! Three months of free service is definitely a decent compensation. And for those of you spooked by the recent MobileMe-themed phishing scam, we assure you that the link in the email is legit.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

Apple just credited my trial account with the 60-day extension. Unfortunately, they extended the expiration date, but reset the subscription start date back to when I first signed up (basically, they didn't add the 60 days to the subscription start date, and they also took away the 30 days that were recently added). So, if I do subscribe, I effectively have no extensions whatsoever (no 30-day, no 60-day, nothing).
I really, really hope that this is just another screwup, and is not intentional.
I'm going to end up with seven months of free Mobile Me, due to the trial with my MacBook Pro, and the extensions...
Until they issue another one, and then maybe I'll end up with a year.
The fact that it's taken Apple this long to admit that MobileMe wasn't their "finest hour" is a little bit silly.
Apple is well positioned to take over the desktop PC market in the next few years. Partially because their software and hardware works so well; mainly because Microsoft has pretty much handed it to them. If they start down the road of "pay for this stuff now, and we'll try to make it work sometime later," the victory is going to be short-lived. 90 free days of MobileMe is a step in the right direction, but I still feel gypped by the hype vs. the reality.
Example: In order to send photos from my iPhone to my MobileMe gallery, I need to install Leopard. WHY? You don't even need a Mac to create and edit a gallery online. The idea that I need to pony up an extra $150 on top of the $100 a year that MM costs just so the service has all its functionality, is ridiculous.
I'm hoping they'll send out an apology message that says, "sorry for the whole incredibly stupid MobileMe/me.com thing. We're going back to the much better mac.com name."
They say we can still use mac.com, but something clearly don't work unless the url has me.com in it, like iWeb comments. That's a bunch of crap, IMO.
For millions of us MobileMe is working flawlessly.
Millions of us don't give a hoot about the cutesy iCards - good riddance! (I'm talking to you MacSmiley posting on every blog you can think of!)
Notice: If you are having problems and MobileMe is not working for you it's because Apple hates your guts and wants to ruin your personal life. Apple singled you out and will hound you till you get fed up and go buy some Windows crap like you deserve. This is a targeted attack on YOU personally.
Or
Stop being an idiot, go read the excellent online instructions Apple provides and rebuild your settings on your computer and on your handheld device be it an iPhone or iPod Touch.
If you have a crappy old browser on a crappy Windows machine that can't handle the latest web technology as per MobileMe - tough, nobody cares.
I am tired of everyone throwing out random numbers like "it is working for millions of us." Ya know, I bet a number of users, including myself, could just as easily say "it is NOT working for millions of us." Just because it is working FOR YOU doesn't mean it is working for everyone else.
I am having many difficulties with MobileMe and it has been a huge disappointment thus far. I am glad to hear that Apple is acknowledging the issues, but I wish they had the staff to fix things faster. I have been waiting since the launch over a month ago for them to fix a serious issue for me.
I bought MobileMe when i got my iPhone at launch cos they were doing a deal. So far, I've not opened it because I've been running as a free account since then.
Nice :D 1.5 years worth of MobileMe for less than the cost of a year :D
There are two petitions clamoring for the return of Apple's iCards:

30 days plus 60 days should bring me to an expiration in January 2009, not December 2008. I'll give Apple a few days to fix this. If it's not fixed shortly, I'm gonna call
Apple Customer Relations at 1-800-767-2775
and tell them to credit me the complete 90 day extension for what we're not getting anymore.
I'm all for Apple's breakneck progress. Even so, why should I have to lose all the value of the ancillary .Mac services... especially Apple iCards!!
PLEASE don't kill Apple iCards!

Just got the mail. Nice. However, I hope to see a price drop for the 1 yr subscription.

I understand that if you get hit by a bus you wont be able to take advantage of the 60 days free.. but honestly buddy, if you get hit by a bus you cant use the cash refund either. Well maybe if you are into kabbalah you can, but that's another topic.
