Jobs to miss Apple shareholder meeting this week
Bloomberg is reporting that Steve Jobs will not attend this week's Apple shareholder meeting. That's not a big surprise -- Jobs' health has kept him from attending recent usual events, including Macworld earlier this year. But it is the first time in the over 10 years since he rejoined the company that he won't be appearing at the annual meeting.Additionally, at this week's meeting, as usual, shareholders will vote on whether or not to re-elect Apple's directors to their one-year terms, including Jobs, though nothing is expected to change -- the company has remained strongly in support of Jobs as leader, even if they haven't talked about his health as much as some investors may have liked. COO Tim Cook will likely run most of the planned activities during the meeting.
We'll keep an eye on any news that comes out of the closed meeting (streams and transcripts won't be available, but there will be reporters in attendance), and let you know what we hear. As always, we wish Jobs and his company and family the best of health, and hope he is able to feel better soon.

I think it's incredibly morbid and insensitive to Jobs and his family to continue to plaster his personal health all over the place. He's taken a leave of absence which makes him just another person. I wish him and his loved ones the best.

Agreed.
R Palmer said he'd stop posting re: Jobs' health, and from what I can tell, he's kept his word.
I wish the rest of TUAW would agree to do the same though -- gossip about peoples' health belongs in trashy sensationalist mags and nowhere else.

As long as he's CEO or is expected to return as CEO then his health and his current activities are a valid topic of conversation.

If anything, I think Apple and Steve Jobs deserve even more scrutiny than is usually called for. Steve Jobs is the CEO of a multi-billion dollar (publicly traded) company and Jobs himself has a net worth in the billions of dollars. Nothing wrong with that, I applaud it, but Apple and Jobs haven't exactly been above board on his health issues as they relate to his position with Apple and his ability to carry on as CEO.
I'm not one of those people that usually clamors for companies to be completely transparent, but Jobs' health (as long as he was CEO of Apple) was one of those instances where it was clearly called for. Unfortunately, Apple and Jobs continually dissembled, therefore bringing even more scrutiny upon Apple and Jobs himself.

Not to be even more insensitive (with a touch of conspiracy theory as well), but has anyone actually SEEN Jobs lately?

I saw him having lunch last week in SF with Jerry Yang. No lie. He didn't look a whole lot better but he's well enough to have lunch in a suit jacket with yang in a full suit!!!

He hasn't logged in to his computer in weeks, apparently, which could mean any number of things but probably means that he's simply unplugging from the grid, so to speak, as most people do when they take a break.

Sorry, but as a public figure and CEO of a huge publicly traded company, his health is a completely relevant issue for discussion. For the most part, it seems to have been done in a reasonably appropriate way (especially here at TUAW.)

Look up "medical leave".
He's on leave. Yes, for health reasons that may be publicly relevant because it's a public company. But he's on a publicly disclosed leave. So of course he won't be at the conference call. Because you know what? He's on leave.
Leave it alone.
