Steve Jobs and Eric Schmidt share a coffee
Wonders never cease.Gizmodo has posted photos of what appears to be Steve Jobs and Eric Schmidt sharing a coffee in Palo Alto. What's significant is that the photo was supposedly taken today.
Gizmodo's tipster supposedly overheard Jobs say, "They're going to see it all eventually so who cares how they get it," (this in reference to web content, the tipster notes) and, "Let's go discuss this somewhere more private."
The public, rapid deterioration of the relationship between Jobs and Schmidt (and on a larger scale, Apple and Google) has been the talk of the tech world in recent weeks. You'll remember that Schmidt joined Apple's board in 2006, and that Google had a hand in the original iPhone's Map app. Since then, Google released Chrome OS and the Android phones, generating an obvious conflict of interest. Last year, Schmidt resigned from Apple's board for that very reason.
Recently, Jobs has shared harsh words for his former collaborator with Apple employees and (allegedly) Schmidt himself.
So, these shots of the two titans enjoying a drink in sunny Palo Alto is unexpected to say the least. Of course, we aren't entirely sure that some aspect of the meeting wasn't staged. First of all, Steve is very recognizable in his "uniform," and the two men are outside. It's not uncommon to see celebrities in California, of course, but this is like Jason Varitek and Alex Rodriguez sharing a scorpion bowl.
What Eric Schmidt didn't realize was that BOTH drinks were spiked with iocane powder. Steve has built up an immunity.

... very clever writing with the concluding line about Iocane Powder... Made me laugh out loud :-)

interesting ...
I have never really bought into this whole Apple vs. Google war. All of it is based on third-party hearsay and/or speculation. Even the things that Steve "supposedly" said about Google in an Apple meeting didn't sound very legit to me. I think it makes a great story, so news sites keep trying to continue it, whether it's true or not.
And by the way, what does this line mean?
"that Google had a hand in the original iPhone's Map app"
Um, Google IS the map app. The entire map app on the current and every version of iPhone is based entirely on Google maps. Am I missing something?
i believe Google is the back-end of the maps application, while Apple made the application itself. or Apple's maps application queries Google's maps data.
i'm sure Apple had to work closely with Google to have it integrated.
never go up against steve jobs when THE MARKET is on the line!!

March 26 2010 at 5:33 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyProbably not very much, imagine if you will:
Apple geek walking around Palo Alto
See's Steve Jobs eating lunch
Snaps a couple pictures
Freaks out to him self
Calls friends who don't care
Has to tell someone who'd be excited
Emails photos to Gizmodo
So that definitely looks like the Palo Alto Apple store behind and to the left. Which would make that the Coppola restaurant "Rosso & Bianco" they are sitting at.
One problem.
That restaurant closed over a year ago..
That looks to be about a 2-3 year old pic to me
Wrong :)
Charlie `I dont wake up to make bad food` runs a joint in Palo Alto that Steve is know to frequent....and several folks have verified the photo.
BTW...Charlie makes some good stuff. He did an event for Singularity U a couple-few weeks back. I highly recommend it if you are in Palo Alto :)

Actually, instead of slowly building up immunity to iocane powder over the years, he had the immunity secretly engineered into a new liver. You know the rest of the story.
