New Apple patents for iPhone, wide trackpad, Final Cut Pro, and Apple Mail

Well, it already knows not to pick up on your thumb if you're resting it on the lower portion of the trackpad, so you could have thought it'd be smart enough to pick up on accidental wrist movement. I'd seriously welcome having a nice wide trackpad- would make a nice music instrument interface, among other things.

I suspect it's more a matter of nailing down wrist- and palm-detection than a lack of space. Wouldn't want the mouse pointer jumping around, the page scrolling around, Expose popping up, etc., when what you're actually trying to do is type.
