US Uncut group to target Apple with protests on June 4

If you see a group of people dancing in front of your local Apple store next weekend, don't be alarmed. Steve Jobs didn't make a surprise visit to the store and, no, Apple isn't launching another product. They are just protesters from the US Uncut group.

The grassroots movement is upset with corporate tax loopholes and has deciced to target the Cupertino company on June 4. They accuse Apple and other corporations like Pfizer of hiding US income as foreign income to avoid paying taxes. The group is calling on its members to protest with a flash mob-style dance-in outside Apple retail stores around the US. Read on for a video to find out why this group is so upset with Steve Jobs and company.

Well, when you get to number one this stupid stuff comes with the territory. It's only going to get worse the more popular Apple gets and more money it makes

Found this 60 minutes segment on US companies, tax havens, and corporate competitiveness worth watching.
Really good in understanding both sides of the coin* (har) & it's short! http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7360932n

American companies are finding new overseas tax havens to legally protect some of their profits from the U.S. tax rate of 35 percent, among the highest in the world. Lesley Stahl reports.

No no no, this cant be true.

These very same protestors along with a majority of Apple's employees all voted for Obama who wouldnt allow this type of tax cheating to take place. All these people voted for change and im sure he (Obama) changed it all to help the people on MainStreet not corporations and wallstreet :/

Im sure Steve Jobs and all the smart people at Apple who voted for Obama agreed with him as well when he told that fake Joe plumber guy that we needed to "SPREAD THE WEALTH AROUND". And im sure Apple is doing just that!

All in the name of Hope and Change!

The blame here falls on the U.S. Congress and not Apple. The Congress makes the laws and the laws permit this. Blame the people who voted for your congressman.

You can't fault ANY corporation for taking advantage of the tax laws. Protesting Apple will do nothing to change these laws. If these "activists" want to affect change, they need to focus on those who create the laws and those lawmakers that allow themselves to be influenced by lobbyists.

Of course, dancing outside of some Congressman's office won't get ya much press, would it?

Yes you can, because those same companies lobbied for lenient tax laws like this in order to drum up sales, not to stimulate the economy! This is self interest, not for the greater good.

I realize it's the corporations that hire the lobbyists, etc.

However, if lawmakers didn't allow themselves to be influenced by said lobbyists (as per my original comment), then it would all be for naught and the lobbying would stop. You can't fault the corporations for wanting to pocket as much money as possible... it's their reason d'etre after all.

This is just some peoples way of feeling like they did something this long weekend. I am willing to bet most of them don't even know what they are protesting. They just heard dance and protest on their campus and figured it was something to do.

Apparently they will be playing the music for the dance from an iPad that will also be playing video protesting people dancing outside of store.

coasterjob said "Frankly the treasury isn't collecting the money now, and under a tax holiday wouldn't collect, and the economy would benefit from having 'more US dollars at home'," and I agree.

The uncut dudes don't really have a knack for hard numbers either..."Did you REALLY earn only 13.9% of your profits in the US?" is about as informative a statement as "is bin Laden REALLY dead?" or "are you REALLY sure there's no such thing as the tooth fairy?" - not nearly enough to rally protesters on.

The less taxes they pay, the less they contribute to wars and torture.
It's all part of the Greenpeace image.

Corporations love War, viewing it as a product, hence the profiteers and manufactures of said product such as Halliburton and Black Water and it's a tich sad that the citizenry which opposes War are the ones left funding it.
