Ok, it's time for some last-minute rumor mongering. A little birdie just flew into TUAW headquarters (a little birdie who wishes to remain anonymous) and told us the following. Remember, this is all rumor, folks, but it sounds like it could be legit to us. Here we go."...Let's just say I have been informed by a little reliable birdy about Tomorrow's event. The line-up will follow this similar structure:
- Welcoming of Media Members
- Discussion on iTunes software, iTMS integration into iTunes, and iTMS sales and facts.
- Announcement of iTunes version 7.0
- Announces better search feature for Music Store
- Announces Movie Store. Available Immediately will be movies from Disney and Pixar, among other studios.
- New iPod Nano Announcement (nice brushed casing, while it will have same features as first gen, only a longer battery life)
- New iPod Announcement (Widescreen, Bluetooth, and featuring virtual touchweel. Does not include Wi-Fi, or any other protocols)
- One More Thing....TubePort. A $99 2-piece set that includes a dongle that connects via USB to your mac, and another dongle that connects via included HD cables or regular Component cables to your TV. The movie is accessed on your Mac via an iDisk-like storage component hosted by Apple.
Do with that what you will (We agree that "TubePort" is a really lame-sounding name).

It would be nice if there was only one movie to buy. Buying multiple copies of a movie sounds like UMD. Guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow.

TubePort? It doesn't roll off the tongue... it would never make it through any first round naming/branding meetings!

Well I'm not too worried about waiting 13 hours to hear the real deal, but this sounds real.
I don't like the $19.99 price point to play a file on both a computer AND an iPod. Why can't I play it on both for the same price? It will kill apple's movie service if you can ONLY do lo-res iPod movies (like converting them yourself now) or ONLY play on a PC (like Unbox, but less studios and mac support).
Luckily, I myself don't give a crap about downloading movies, and have been waiting through the lame 5G for an upgrade to my 4G iPod! ^.^

TubePort? NO way. They would never name something that horribly. It is a no nosense name. The device may be real but that can't be the name.
Actually I'm not buy that agenda because it is exactly how we all expect it to go. They will have to give the nano more storage or people will balk at it. I like a shiny new cover and juice but all little more storage too.
I'm leaving this rumor at the door.

"TubePort"??! Dear god, I really do hope this part of the rumor is false. If not, somebody fire whoever is in charge of naming apple's new products; first "MacBook", now "TubePort".

But won't that tube get clogged? Especially with all that video data, after all it's not a truck.

so, basically, your source is saying it will follow the general structure of all apple events [recap of last quarter figures, upgrades to existing products, announcement of new products, one more thing] except the biggest new product will be announced with a crappy name?
I'm not buying that it will be called tubeport in any way shape or form.

Hopefully the TubePort supports Front Row and the like.... and (wishfully) YouTube?? That would be lazy and fun to surf YouTube from the couch. I hope the movies are HD, even though they would be ginormous in size, cuz that would mean I don't have to buy a HD or Bluray player.

Sounds very realistic although the nanos need a storage bump. But TubePort? TubePort?

My reliable source tells me it WILL have WiFi. You will be able to use it at hotspots to download movies or music. So, iTunes without the need for a computer, opens up a whole other market. You will be able to also remotely view say your iMac screen.

"TubePort"? Sounds more likely to be a USB interface into John Malkovich's head.

TubePort has not been trademarked by Apple. MacBook was trademarked in September 2005, four months ahead of the MacBook Pro launch.
Based on this, I'm guessing TubePort is not the real name.

lol, TubePort. What a dumb name. Everything else sounds OK, but TubePort? Maybe they told this guy a fake name so he wouldn't mess up the only surprise left.
Or maybe this is all BS after all. But I want to believe. Me wants touch-screen iPod.

So if I want to watch a video via TubePort it is hosted by Apple somewhere and not on my hard drive?
If I want to watch it twice it cost me twice the bandwith?
No deal.
Give me something I can use to stream to my TV from my Mac and you will get my money.
