Al Gore taunted at shareholders' meeting, gets 10k more options anyway

Last week in this post and last night during the talkcast, we mentioned that Apple's shareholders had passed on a sustainability proposal during last week's meeting (the first time in recent memory that Apple didn't go for stricter environmental standards), but apparently the shareholders weren't just against the proposal. At least one of them was openly heckling Al Gore about his work with the environment. Shelton Ehrlich (who apparently has a reputation among Apple shareholders as a conspiracy believer) stood up and called Gore a "laughingstock," railing against Gore's re-election to the board of directors. Good times -- we're sure Gore is used to dealing with controversies like that, but we wouldn't have expected it at the Apple shareholder meeting.

Still, that hasn't dissuaded him from working with the company -- according to an SEC filing, he also picked up another 10,000 stock options from Apple, netting him more than $227k according to Apple's current stock price. Good deal. At least one of Apple's shareholders isn't too happy with Gore's work for the environment, but the relationship between Gore and Apple seems like it's here to stay for a while.

Al Gore brought forward the biggest threat to mankind and our ecosystems, unfortunately the science is missing critical data. What does Al Gore, the UN and all of you have in common? You are blind to temperature.

It is really important for readers to understand that the scientific and academic community of the world is literally blind to temperature so you had blind policy developed based on blind science.

We completed several years of advanced infrared at molecular levels to see the cause of urban heat islands as well as how billions in energy costs is used reacting to them. The results of the research contradicted our own educations in building engineering and electrical energy provision but you have to remember we use calculators for temperature considerations.

Do you know why Bermuda and other places in Europe white wash buildings? It is for the same reason meteorology protects the thermometer in weather stations, they don't want them radiated by the sun. Unfortunately North America deregulated the entire construction industry so everyone could build regardless of professional background and you should see what we did.

Los Angeles spends over 100 million in energy costs reacting to urban heat islands, all of it is a waste and producing more toxic emissions reacting to the symptoms of buildings being radiated by the same sun that burns us. Here is a link to infrared images and time-lapsed infrared videos showing buildings being radiated. As a result they are generating heat the building isn't designed or insulated for. http://www.thermoguy.com/urbanheat.html

SheltonEhrlich,
to correct the spelling of Shelton Ehrlich's name. Erica Ogg is a CNET News reporter....probably some kind of grammer freak

Im surprised nobody has mentioned 'HAARP' regarding the extreme wether patterns in certain parts of the world.

Its also worth asking the question why David Belamy ( someone who was all over the TV for years ) who has been snubbed by the BBC for the past 10 years, as he questioned 'Global Warming' or 'Climate Change' as it is now branded.

I also wonder why over 10,000 scientists are trying to sue Al Gore for his work in this area. Probably because he has set himself up to earn millions from the carbon credit plans. Interesting how some people will push an agenda when there is financial reward, regardless of truth.

I love people who openly ask "I wonder why...?"

It's a perfect opportunity to apply Occam's Razor: it usually means they themselves haven't taken the time to think it through.

A lot of the problem here is that people have assumed "global warming" or "global climate change" is the same thing as "man-made global warming" or "man-made climate change". The fact that people can sit back, and deny the reality of natural global warming and natural global cooling, is the real sign of hubris and ego.

So let's be very specific here -> yes, it could be warmer today than last year. And it could be colder today that last year. And it could be different in different places around the globe. But to blame all of this natural variation on humans, much less a trace of plant food in the atmosphere, is an extreme proposition that has very little evidence to support it.

Building a model that isn't falsifiable is not science. If natural global climate change deniers want to do science, they need to start off with a very basic element -> what evidence would falsify your hypothesis? Before we start going back again on ad hominem attacks, or appeals to authority of the IPCC, answer that question first. What evidence would prove that AGW is wrong? More snow? Less snow? Exactly the same amount of snow two years in a row? Five years? 10 years?

Make some sort of prediction that can be falsified, and then you're doing real science. Otherwise, you're simply trying to justify a predetermined conclusion - that's called religion.

"he also picked up another 10,000 stock options from Apple, netting him more than $227k according to Apple's current stock price."

Unless I'm missing something very obvious, wouldn't he have gotten more than $2,000,000 if he got 10,000 stock options? I'm showing that Apple's stock price was in the $206-$210 range yesterday and today.

He doesn't get the stock. Just the option to buy it at some discounted price (say $180/share)

For example, he could buy 10,000 shares for $1.8 million, and then turn around and sell it immediately for a little over $2 million, making a $200,000 profit.

He doesn't have to actually put up the $1.8 million.

Or he could wait until it's at $300/share then do the buy and sell thing for a $1.2 million profit.

The options probably expire at some point, so he'll have to decide when the right time to sell is. If the stock price drops below $180, he can't make any money.

How do we know the price he gets to purchase the options at?

How many polar bears died so Al could have all those monitors lit up in his huge mansion? Well I guess it's OK because he can buy carbon credits from his own for-profit company.
