iTunes 9.2 on deck

Safari 5 dropped yesterday and its sibling, iTunes 9.2, is reportedly waiting for its turn. A gold master edition has been seeded to developers, signifying that it is as close to completion as it's going to get.

What can we expect from the update? Compatibility with new iOS 4, of course, and the updated file structure that the new firmware will include. We also expect it to allow for the iBooks syncing between devices and PDF support that Steve Jobs discussed at yesterday's keynote.

According to iPodNN, additional changes include faster sync times and faster scrolling through lists. When will it drop? iOS 4 is due on June 21st, so iTunes 9.2 should be released shortly before then.

Sharepod (for windows) is a better manager for music & photos.
Bring on the total rewrite and get it right Mr Jobs!

iPhoneBrowser is good for those who are free.

No wonder we jailbreak!

Is anyone noticing that TV shows won't sync?

Add my voice to the chorus looking forward to a total rewrite of iTunes. I won't mention version numbers because as far as I'm concerned 9.2 should really be about at version 4.3...

I was bothered Jobs did t really answer the question posed to him at D8 about syncronizing EVERYTHING wirelessly. It not the same as sharing. My number one complaint is that I still have to tether to sync podcasts between my iPhone and my computer. The utter lack of orginizational tools for photos and videos is a close second.

Unfortunately, I am sooo ready for iTunes 10. iTunes is, bar none, my least favorite part of my tech ecosystem. Not only is the bloat getting worse in a way that spits in the face of Apple's pursuit of elegant productivity, but good features are actually being removed:

(1) the four-column searching of the library was pulled
(2) managing movies on only by thumbnail (big step back)

Updating apps is downright painful for the OCD. I want to be able to have categories of apps: (a) automatically update and install whenever there's an update, (b) show me when there's an update, and (c) never check for downloads again. What does everyone else do, do you delete programs from your library as well as removing them from the phone?

About every month or so I go through my app list on iTunes and manually delete those I don't want hanging around anymore.

However, a while ago, my list was SO bloated, I manually deleted every single IPA file on my Windows HD, then transfered back over the apps I was currently using on my iPhone.

That saved me a bunch of time and trouble. I think that's the best way to go, especially if Apple can give me a list of all my previously purchased Apps in the App Store.

If the update is as good as the Safari 5 update was today, I'll be thrilled. I got a beach ball almost every time I did anything in Safari 4 on Snow Leopard, and since I installed 5 I haven't had a single beach ball or hang. Hooray!

So if iTunes 9.2 is just as snappy as Safari 5, bring it on.
