Apple trademarks "Vingle"
On October 7th, Apple trademarked the term “Vingle” at the U.S. Patents and Trademarks Office. Included in the trademark is the logo at right (exciting, isn't it?). It reads:“Telecommunication services, namely, electronic transmission of streamed and downloadable audio and video files via computer and other communications networks; providing on-line chat rooms, bulletin boards and community forums for the transmission of messages among computer users concerning entertainment, music, concerts, videos, radio, television, film, news, sports, games and cultural events; web casting services; delivery of messages by electronic transmission; provision of connectivity services and access to electronic communications networks, for transmission or reception of audio, video or multimedia content.”
I imagine a merging of "video" and "single" is the obvious origin of the term, but I'm intrigued by the section that reads, "...on-line chat rooms, bulletin boards and community forums for the transmission of messages among computer users concerning entertainment, music..." etc. What's that all about?

A second possibility, though I think your's is the most accurate, is "mingle" + "video".

How about Video + Dongle? Vingle... Vongle... Whatever the combination is, it still sounds silly.

Could this be Apple's telecom service - 3G Apple PDA/Music/Video/Phone?

It seems like a more user-centric iTunes kind of program, with a built in browser of some sort.

How about a built-in iTunes Concert? Where you can actually watch bands perform live (in a garage?) over the net. Long shot but might be possible.

Just random stuff, it could be anything or it could just be nothing.

What about a service that would truely combine FrontRow with OSX with your TV? You have tv shows, video conferencing, email, blogs, movies, music, photos, blah blah.... all the stuff they mentioned. Use your living room as your office, but sync it with your iPhone/iPod/iPDA.
Wow. I think I just wet myself.

Hmmm....
Maybe Apple is making a PDA! That would be so cool. Or maybe a kind of tablet?
Or maybe it's a handheld computer! (Yes, there is a difference, a handheld computer is like Windows CE/Windows Mobile and a PDA is like Palm)

Maybe Apple is going for what they (supposedly) wanted to originally do with the Newton. A 'total information access, anywhere' sort of thing.
Of course the newton was made in the days when an internet connection wirelessly was all but unheard of.

Domains by Proxy is not a cybersquatter, they're a service that lets you keep your WHOIS data anonymous so spambots don't harvest it.

That is only copyright law stuff, you state what type of products you want to register the trademark for. It hasn't got anything to do with product really, it's just about making sure nobody else uses the trademark in a similar product.
I had to write an application like this for a small consumer electronics brand, that's how I know. I live and work in Sweden, so it's a little different, but I basically made sure to bring about examples of all related products I could think of.
