Fresno, CA Apple Store opens this weekend
Attention, Californians: You're getting another Apple Store. What, the beaches, sunny weather and celebrities aren't enough? You've got to hog all of the Apple Stores, too?*West coast life gets even better when Apple Store Fashion Fair opens this Saturday, June 9th at 10:00 AM. The store is located at 645 E. Shaw Ave in Fresno, in the mall between Macy's Men's Store and Gottchalk's. You can get complete travel directions here.
If you visit the store this weekend, send us your stories and photos. Have fun, and grab a T-shirt!
*Sorry. I live in the boonies, and am bitter.
Thanks, Kernel Dan!

You won't find many beaches or celebrities in Fresno. It's pretty much a hell-hole.

There are a lot of Apple stores in the LA area, but it's still not enough. My nearest one is about 10 miles away and it takes me over an hour to get there, and that's not even during rush hour.
But more Apple stores in the world are very much appreciated, no matter where they are.

Fresno is pretty much the definition of the word 'boonies'

Fresno is definitely not in the boonies. I live about an hour north of Fresno so this is pretty nice considering the nearest Apple Store is at least 2 hours away from anyone living in the valley.

Just what everyone needed, a new Apple Store in California! We sure don't have enough of them there!

@ Jon - I've lived in LA for years and can't imagine driving for over an hour to go 10 miles non-rush hour. Are you sure you are not driving in reverse?

I live in the Fresno area I am super excited for the new store. We desperately needed one. Hope to see some of you guys there. I'll be filming it with some buddies.
Also, Fresno is not really the 'boonies'.

After living in Palo Alto for five years, my wife and I moved back to Fresno to buy a nicer house and be around our families. We sold the house for almost double two years later and built a new one with a pool. That's the only rule about living in Fresno - you better have a pool. We love it here - skiing an hour away, a lake 20 minutes away, and a few hours' drive to LA or SF. Just don't breathe the air.
See you guys there on Saturday.

Retail sales at Fashion Fair are $575 sq ft. Not exactly the boonies. That's almost "A" market status.

The only reason California has sooo many apple stores is because it is so big. We could use a couple more...

So does anyone know how many people turn out to these things? I mean, Fresno is not really Mac central, and there are far fewer people than in LA or big cities? I plan on going as well!

@14: Here in Texas, we're bigger than you. WE need more Apple Stores, not California.

I think Apple's idea behind opening an Apple Store in Fresno is to catch all the tourists going through there to get to Yosemite and Sequoia/Kings Canyon. There is no other reason. Okay, there's Fresno State but other than that school you have mostly farmers and drug dealers. If the store is off of Hwy. 41 then it'll at least get traffic. It would be an excellent place for an Outlet Store, though.
Now, the Palm Springs area could use an Apple Store and business-wise, it'd kill.
And sorry, Texas, you may be bigger in size and you have more rednecks and tumbleweeds (although Fresno has plenty of both) but as far as cash flow goes California has you dwarfed. In fact, our GDP is bigger than most countries! I always tell my poor friends living in Dallas that California is the best country in the world! Just don't move here.

Fresno isn't a hellhole as much as it is landlocked. Plus there's a difference between WesCal and EasCal.

Texas does not need any more Apple stores. In Dallas there are three, and they are all relatively close to eachother (less than a 30 minute drive between each of them). In other cities in Texas, I am not so sure of how many Apple stores they have.
Fresno people: don't forget set the home page on safari to TUAW!

An Apple Store in Fresno. That is ALMOST a reason to go there. But you guys have a point, it is a major stop for people traveling to yosemite and back from LA. Now when they build an Apple store in Chico, then pigs will fly.
