Apple Store Sydney storefront leaked

The Sydney Morning Herald has been doing a little poking around the city council blueprints office, and they've come back with an artists' representation of what the new Apple Store will look like there-- a huge glass cube, basically, embedded in the building. A few people who sent it to us (thanks!) said there was supposed to be a huge Apple hanging in the window, but I don't see it. I believe it'll be there, though-- the New York store has a similar design, and the SMH article does mention that big white Apple logo.

It also mentions that Apple is going to stick a huge crane in the street to set up all that glass, and that the store will have three full levels, with the top level going to the Genius Bar. Also nice to see that Apple is tight-lipped about mentioning the store to the newspaper, making them (I'm pretty sure) the only company ever to keep the lid shut on an upcoming retail location. I'm sure the folks from Wal-mart would love to chat with the media about one of their new stores.

Still, it'll be nice for you Aussies to have somewhere to go and get your iPhones, MacBooks, and Cinema Displays-- the UK store has already hit 10 million visitors. Word is that the Sydney store will open sometime after mid-2008.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I just happened across this page, and thought I should point out that the architectural render in the SMH is of the initial DA (before the Apple Store was anchored as the major retail tenant). The DA amendment (for the Apple Store), included new architectural renders http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/1123/77kingstnewxe9.jpg
On the whole, the SMH coverage has been sloppy, and they have simply sensationalised information from http://www.ifoapplestore.com

Seems to be a lot of people wanting a store in South Australia. Maybe Adelaide is the Apple captital of Australia - the perfect colony (Certainly never heard SA referred to as the perfect colony before). Still Melb would be ok if not in Adeliade, only a short flight away.

i just wanna be able to get my Education discount without paying postage and needing a credit card. seriously, how many students have credit cards?

Also, apart from the bottom floors the rest of the building looks pretty ugly

Forget Apple stores, I just need a Next Byte in Port Pirie and I'll be happy.

Just to say thanks TUAW for the return to the usual variety of subject in the recent posts. Although this topic isn't directly relevant to me (as I've sadly never been to Oz), it's nevertheless nice to have the wide choice of topics back. Long may it continue!

Perhaps that also means that His Steveness will finally get around to bestowing upon us lowly Aussies the (apparent) wonder that is iPrinting.

Local alternatives are far too expensive. I've even had items printed (as it turns out, in Germany - go figure...), sent to an address in the UK, then shipped to me Down Under.

Oh, and now that we're also getting American TV shows within a week of them first airing in the US, when are we going to get all that special movie and TV loving via iTunes...that is, if there're any TV shows worth watching left on iTunes?

We NEED a real  Apple Store in Brissie too! The ones here - except for the one in the Meyer Store in the Meyer Centre - Quuen Street Mall - are pitiful. No stock, no 3rd party stuff, and no information. They do not know their  stuff, at all. They are like a pack of Galahs.

The above mentioned "store" = top floor Meyers - is like walking into a "real"  Apple Store in the States! They even have a non-genius Genius On Duty (G.O.D.) bar... no tech support BUT they do have training and all of the guys wear black Ts and have give aways! Heh! (Well they used to have give aways). I am wearing my "Hello I'm a Mac." T-shirt. :P

Would I travel to SYD to walk into a real Apple Shop in Oz. In a heartbeart!

And by the UK store you surely mean the London Regent St store? There are a total of 11 stores across the UK!

I'd always thought March/April 2008 was the timeframe, and that the iPhone release would be around that time too. Wishful thinking I guess.

Wonder how NextByte over in Clarence Street will be affected when it eventually opens? Maybe they'll be sabotaging the site! Although they have a lot of corporate accounts and probably don't care so much about the retail traffic.

As for the plans, I believe they were on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "Beware of The Leopard".
