802.11n Airport Express is now on sale

Some people may not believe that a leak on the Swiss Apple Store is an indication of actual product coming down the mountain. "The Swiss don't make mistakes like that," they say. Well, fair enough, but we now have the real deal: the Airport Express with 802.11n is on sale in the US Apple Store.

Our retail channel sources told us that the AE would be available by 3/23 or sooner, so looks like "sooner" wins. $99, supports up to 10 connected machines, AirTunes and printer sharing: works for me.

Thanks Mr. X & everyone who sent this in

Why is there still no Airport with build-in modem?
Then we could get rid of those 2 boxes, 2 wires and 2 adapters at last.

Ik have a Linksys here. Modem and router in 1.
Much simpler!

I am very much for excited for this. I do have a question though that I hope can be answered. I know that the USB for is designated for a printer, but could one use it for an external USB drive?

if you look at the link Reuven posted (http://www.apple.com/wifi/); the express's USB port is "For printers only"

Doesn't it seem likely that Apple could enable existing Airport Express users to upgrade their old hubs to include the "n" standard functionality? Does anyone have a clue about this?

it's not going to be a software upgrade. g runs at 2.4GHz while n is 2.4 and 5GHz; this is a hardware upgrade.

I guess that tip I sent TUAW in over two weeks ago was true then, about the refresh on the Express ;)

Good news for Canadians too - it's the first product Apple has released that has "par" pricing. Portent of things to come?

Can I use this to EXTEND the range of my current Belkin Wireless N router? Or does it only work with the AirPort Extreme? I like the whole AirTunes idea of listening to my music in my kitchen while I cook.

It only extends Airport networks, though there are hacks to extend other networks such as the Linksys WRT54G.

It is about time that Apple gave this little gem some love. By the way. Don't buy from Amazon. They list it for $189 against the Apple Store price of $99.

This is one of the "Must pack" items in my road warrior travel bag.
