Woz on Jobs' medical leave

In a conversation with NBC about Steve Jobs' leave from Apple, co-founder Steve Wozniak said this break could be exactly what Steve -- and Apple -- needs. Woz had some great things to say, and my favorite was his answer to the question, "If Steve [Jobs] were not at Apple, would the company be as able to produce the kind of products we've seen?" Woz's answer:

"Way too hypothetical. I would never venture a guess ... obviously, Steve's very important but Apple has some incredible people, followers of the Apple mentality, followers of Steve himself."

In other words (if I may paraphrase you, Woz), Steve isn't Apple and Apple isn't Steve. No matter what happens, the company will be fine. Good call.

A bit of the audio from the Woz interview was played on last night's talkcast, along with your voicemail wishes for Steve Jobs' improved health. Mike assures me he'll have the show up and online tonight.

Look at what happened when Steve J was gone from the company -- many people thought Apple would not survive -- and it might not have if Steve hadn't returned. He had (and still has) the cojones to impose and restore his vision on the company. Hard to say if some money-hungry CEO (the norm today, obviously) could do the same.

So maybe Woz would be right for the job. An already super-wealthy person who only cares about the company, its products and its users, not his or her own bank account.

yeah... other people already pointed it out, but that is the worst paraphrasing attempt i've ever read. :P

Steve is like House - he needs the rest of the team (at Apple), but it's his character that moves things in a clear direction.

The biggest worry is that without somebody of Steve's persona, Apple will devolve in to a company that makes products by committee. They need somebody who people can't (or are afraid of) arguing against. They need to not be afraid to take risks and cut people off - your computers won't appeal to everyone, but for those that they do appeal to, they'll be the best.

Paraphrase? As in "I couldn't venture to say" = "Yes, for sure"?

Apparently Woz has taken over the role of wearing black turtlenecks?

That paraphrase was rediculous and nothing like what Woz said. Where does he say that Apple will be fine? He says they have good people, but good people does not ensure a great business if the leaders aren't there to lead the company.

Woz should take the managerial(CEO) post at Apple. To doubters I remind you Steve Jobs has no formal training, either. Woz is a remarkable engineer and a visionary. If anyone could bring fever back to Apple, that's Woz.... not some chef, Tim Cook
