Apple scores high on customer experience index, iTunes not so much
According to AppleInsider, Apple has scored higher than other PC companies on Forrester's new customer experience survey, but their main software app didn't fare quite as well. Apple came in at number 35 on the list, which places them way above PC competitors like HP, Compaq and Dell, though iTunes only scored place number 46, putting them way behind online media competitors Barnes and Noble (which sat at number one) and Amazon.com (#4).The survey was driven by asking customers how well their needs were met by the companies on the list, how easy it was to conduct business with them, and how enjoyable the different interactions were. Note that this survey only rates customer interaction -- in terms of actual sales, iTunes is still through the roof. And Apple is still leading the way in customer satisfaction as well. But in terms of actual customer experience, iTunes especially, for something that is quickly becoming Apple's core method of interacting with customers, could probably use a little work.

I smell a rat. Once you have an iTunes Store account, there is nothing easier in the known universe than buying music using iTunes. The iTunes Store also sells more media than anybody else. How these two facts add up to poor customer satisfaction with iTunes is beyond me.

(besides weird Address Book anomalies, but I sync with an iMac,MacBookPro and an iPhone.)
In my experience, iTunes on the Mac "just works". It's well integrated into the system, and when it needs to be updated, it happens in the usual Software Update, which is not too annoying.
On the PC, it has its own update pop-up that comes up when I'm trying to do other things. It wants to take over file extensions. It tries to install itself when all I want to install is Quicktime.
Also, where I've had no problems installing any of the iPhone updates through iTunes on the Mac, my sister has never had a successful update with iTunes on the PC. It locks up her phone every time, and she has to take it to the Genius Bar to get it to work again.
My biggest issue with iTunes (besides the already mentioned general slowness and UI failure on Windows) is that I have to add every song to the library before being able to play it .. so often that I have a sound file from the internet and want to listen to it .. but I don't want it to store all the info in the library, because I am never gonna listen to it again .. why is that not possible.
Or the most genuine feature .. play this song next .. how is that not possible and why is there no uproar about that. I want a playing now playing that I can shuffle songs around and put in new ones as they come. No not possible. Either you started playing for a playlist or you are screwed.
argh .. here goes my bloodpressure again.

iTunes is a slow, fragmented piece of bloatware software - thats why it was voted down. 46th is kind.
Apple - improve iTunes.
iTunes on the PC could use a LOT of help... The software can be extremely slow even on the most advanced systems, especially with big music libraries... I don't have a huge iTunes library and my laptop fairs quite well by todays standards and yet iTunes, which is the only software I use to manage my music (because of my iPhones and iPods), can be quite irritating at times with its sluggishness.
I really hope Apple takes notice of this and finally comes out with a proper version of iTunes.
I have always hated iTunes. Any application which takes as much as 2-3 minutes to respond to mouse clicks needs some serious work.
I'm using a Zune HD now. And have had a much better experience with it, especially performance-wise. My iPod Touch, while I like it, hardly gets used any more because of the iTunes turd it connects to.
"Any application which takes as much as 2-3 minutes to respond to mouse clicks needs some serious work."
Alright, it aint the fastest thing around, but taking 2-3 minutes to respond to a mouse click is not a widespread problem!
After deploying a Media Center earlier this year to replace my Apple TV, I was quite surprised to see just how unpolished the iTunes experience was on Windows. From that clunky updater service to the non-standard UI, the entire app just had this hacked together feeling.
Considering this is how most people encounter iTunes, I'd suggest that 46th place might actually be kind.
maybe we'll see a new verison of itunes (new meaning rewritten from the ground up) later this month. right now it's really not much more than just a specialized browser.
seems like iTunes version 10 is good opportunity for a rewrite esp. since we'll presumably have a new device to sync later this year.
i've always found itunes lacking.. but we've been forced to use it since it's the only option.
I can deny it, windows media player is FAR worse in every respect. Saying that tho I do understand the complaint with iTunes on Windows, while I'll quite happily use iTunes on OS X, I tend not to use iTunes unless I have to on windows it kinda seems like they gave iTunes to M$ and told them to port it, it just doesn't have the usual Apple "shine" shall we say.
